Gen3 1993 Rx7 ECU part number

I am working on repairing a sweet little Gen 3. It will not start and I found that the ECU had been underwater and it is all corroded. A friend gave me another one but it has a different Number than the wiring and the smaller control unit. The ECU I have is a N3A1 while the rest of the parts in the car are labeled N3Z1. I read on a few forums that those number are important since not all cars are programmed the same. I just cannot find anyone who actually knows what the difference between each ECU is and where I can find a replacement.

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

Denis

That shows all the ECU codes. There are also Japanese ECU's out there, not sure on their codes.

I would just try and find another N3A1 ECU. They should be very easy to track a good used one down for cheap. Those are probably the most common and easy to find ECU's.

what do you mean the ECU has "Been underwater" ? Like somebody removed it from the vehicle and submerged it in water? Like it had an interior leak of some kind? Or was it a flood car?

I guess I was not clear, the wiring and the other units in my car are N3Z1 and I cannot find a matching ECU.

The car was parked on a curb with one side higher than the other. water got in the cabin but only the area where the ECU is placed got flooded.

No, you were clear. The components that are N3Z1 are just the starting part numbers of those components. N3A1 is the ECU that belongs in your car (unless its CA emissions). Some RX8 ECU’s start with N3Z1 but thats not going to work.
