A weird question but... I took the gearknob off my S7 Rx7 and can't believe how heavy it is!!! Why is this?? Is it to prevent the gearknob moving around too much?? I know this is a pretty weird question!! Just really weird...

 

It's to make it feel smooth when shifting. It's balanced to the shifter mechanism below.

 

The heavy **** prevents trans vaibrations from coming into your hand as well as making the shifts seem smoother due to the mass. Try a lightweight **** and you'll notice the increase in buzziness right away.
