Gearknob sooo Heavy???

A weird question but... I took the gearknob off my S7 Rx7 and can't believe how heavy it is!!! Why is this?? Is it to prevent the gearknob moving around too much?? I know this is a pretty weird question!! Just really weird...

It's to make it feel smooth when shifting. It's balanced to the shifter mechanism below.

The heavy knob prevents trans vaibrations from coming into your hand as well as making the shifts seem smoother due to the mass. Try a lightweight knob and you'll notice the increase in buzziness right away.
