where would this fit? the double din housing? I have been thinking of trying something like this but using one of those $200 in dash lcd's from ebay as the display unit.
BTW: add me to the list of people who are interested.

Well I guess wherever people are most comfortable having it, because the wires would have to be a certain length. If someone would want it mounted in a differenct place, then they would have to specify so I could shorten or lengthen the wire. Also the 200$ LCDs are a bit pricey, this unit my cost is around 50 to 70$ not sure because Im trying to haggle a discount out of them. I'll let you guys know as I update.

The first unit I listed is less than 2" high. Problem is, you'll need a defi-link unit and sensors if you don't have them. And you'll be limited to what the Defi-link setup can display. As far as temps go, that's oil, water, and EGT.

Well now that I think about it this thing is a bit taller yet thinner than a turbo timer. I guess people could put it where ever they want.

I've seen those things, they retail for at least a couple hundred dollars depending on the model you choose. Hope you can get a good price.

So we still need to install senders or does this reading come from ecu? If it's ecu tapping i'm in, otherwise i'll pass.

I mentioned this earlier your correct their list price is about 140$ , I may be able to get them for 60 to 80 depending on the distributor discount my company gets.

I will include 5 probes (bi metal) each one made specifically for its heat range. Their accurate to about 1/2 a degree (no butchering of ECU needed). The ECU probes for the Air Temp is heavily affected by heat from the manifold. These updated probes are more accurate and less affected by such variables.

Well I guess you could maybe make like a small mold for it, because it could sit in the center speaker mount and maybe make a small covering for it and bam you got 5 guages in the spot of 2 (possibly 3). Its an idea, and one of the first places I thought of putting it. Im going to look around the warehouse on Tuesday (no work monday) and take pictures of it against random places in the FD, to see where it would look and be most functional.

An interesting project, and here's my .02:

1) Why not have rotor head temps - they are by far the
most important. All you would need
to do is install a 14mm thermocouple under the base
of each leading plug. I did. Just remember to
remove the crushable metal gasket that comes
with the plugs to compensate for "reach". (a rather
important component of combustion...)

2) You don't need platinum wire - use
chrome/constantan "E" type. A fraction of the cost.

Good luck!

Ummm I dont know how willing I would be to attacking my housings for a project. I would be more than willing to sell someone the thermocouple for that heat range without a problem. The reason I say platinum because they guy wants the measurements down to .00000000 which there honestly is no reason for. I know chrome/constantan is very cheap and a bit more accurate, but what I will send out with the product would be a bi-metal, wrapped in a fiberglass, wrapped in a stainless steal. Functional and it will look great.
Thanks for the .02
[EDIT] I "think" I have a bad housing sitting around somewhere, if so I'll test it on that.

"Ummm I dont know how willing I would be to attacking my housings for a project."

Housings? - something must be lost in translation.

All I am saying it take the spark plugs out, remove the crush washer, install the thermocouple, re-install the spark plugs with the wire leading to your sensor. The thermocouple lead is malleable enough to crush down and seal against the housing - the same way the crush washer works. You need to bend it a little to fit in the plug hole since the clearance on the sides is pretty tight - but it works fine.

I have no leaks with this setup. I opted to go with an analogue guage which displays both front and rear temperatures on the same dial at the same time. I like the analogue look.

For me, the only temperature I am concerned with is at the base of the spark plug - everything else is "downstream"... and quite frankly not important. I think it is great fun to have sensors measuring temperatures all over the place - lots of "gee whiz" factor - but that's about it. But hey, "gee whiz" sells stuff!

PICS!!!

Alright well I got one of the units from work, and some wire I plan to be using with it. Here are the pics as promised.

This is the Unit In My Hand to Show Size

What the LEDs will look like. Obviously a bit BIGGER since this is a BIGGER unit.

Some pics of It and the Wire in Good Spots for it IN the FD

The Wire is Double Shielded with FiberGlass and Stainless Steel.

ENJOY

I could always ask around, the wire for the EGT is going to have to be a bit higher grade. Since I know we get HOT. About a "prettier" model, I will try to look around.

What is the height of the unit, will it fit into a din opening?
