That triple guage is pretty cool...but you still lose the center speaker.

That's my main complaint as well. I was thinking about just doing a full high quality stereo install tho to make up for it.

I've been told (but haven't yet tried it myself) by one of my UK customers (RH drive guys) that you can install my pod and still retain the center speaker (for whatever it's worth). While I'd suspect that this feat would be best facilitated with electrical gauges, such as the Defi Links (for instance) so as to minimize the wiring going around the speaker and it's surrounding area.
That being said, I'd be curious as to how the system would sound with the center gauge hole empty, with just a speaker grill (you or I could fabricate) in it's place, or maybe even a tweeter seperate installed there. I've been planning on making a matching bezel type speaker grill but don't really desire to try the sound test out in my car, as I'm not really set up for that.
Someone should try it and let us know.

Just a thought, carry on......

Frank

Frank - I have been considering this setup as well - in addition the ALPINE ctr speaker I am using is actually smaller than most 52mm gauges (just UNDER 2" dia) and should be quite easy to mount in one of the gauge holes. I just have not decided if I want to put my last two gauges up there or someplace else. I already have Boost & Water temp on the A pillar and am doing a custom install (see this thread https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=199139 )of Water Temp, Oil temp & Fuel Level in the stock inst. panel. I want to add a Trans Temp & Volt Meter someplace also.

Actually ALL the FD stereo systems came w/ a center speaker, if you have an OE Mazda stereo & no Ctr spkr then someone removed it.

Even if you don't want to go to the trouble of replacing any of the stock gauges like Max did, the SPA double gauges are a good choice for getting multiple gauge functions in the space of a single gauge.

http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/how-to/spa_gauges/

They have configurable warning lights and output triggers, so you could turn on extra fans, or hook up a light or buzzer to let you know when you exceed a certain threshold. They're also available with chrome or black trim, with amber or green illumination.

The only thing I don't like about them is the squarish look of the LCD display area. If they were dark instead of backlit, and the numbers were illuminated, they'd be a slightly better looking gauge, in my opinion. They'd also look better in their own pods than contrasting with the stock gauges, but that's just my opinion also.
