Furthest B/W Oil Changes...

the reason i ask is b/c i can go 10k miles on my 1.8T Jetta (with larger than stock oil filter and mobil 0w-40 oil) and the 13B-REW is supposed to be changed every 3k.

Can you go longer than 3k?

Sure you can, but I wouldn't recommend it. The car injects oil, so you will lose a certain amount between changes. There is also usually some blowby in the oil (which is a small percentage of gas). These are a few of the reasons for more frequent oil changes on these cars.

ahh ok, so you go through a decent amount anyway...

anybody ever try a larger oil filter to increase the capacity of the system?

I use the Big Kahuna from NAPA (FIL1333) thing increased my oil capacity by 0.9 L lol

Most people will recommend using Mazda OEM oil filters, they are generally considered the best for the car.

I change my oil every 1500-1800 miles, but I'm a fanatic and it's not my daily driver so I don't mind spending the extra money and time.

You can use a larger filter, but it's not that much bigger. Take a look at the picture above. The filter is located under the junk in the yellow circle.

hoiw much larger is it vs the OEM?

I was told to use OEM filters for my car as well, MAHN makes them, but the NAPA Gold filters still work well

Not enough to make a difference. The key to picking out a filter for the FD (other than OEM) is to make sure it contains the anti-drainback valve.
