Fuel Pulsation Damper (FPD) Vendor Options

My 94 motor was rebuilt, and now I'm putting all the intakes, etcetera back together. Plan on replacing the FPD. It seems that the only options discussed on the forum (after reading about 30 threads) are:

- stock Mazda part from dealer (mine just quoted me $153.40)
- stock Mazda part from online ($150.61 from Mazdatrix.com)
- aftermarket Marren ($114 plus about $14 to $25 in fittings)

However, it seems that others do exist:
- Nissan part(better pic)
- Chaterham part (search for fuel damper in page)
- Bosch
- Mercedes (old part, but here as an example)

Has anyone used anything other than stock or Marren?

Are there any other aftermarket dampers?

Cheers,
Anders

$153 is a pretty good deal. in SF, the local Mazda parts dealer wanted over $200+ for one. I ended up getting it for $154.00 or something close. The guy said that he was giving me the "shop" price.

Use the stock part, man. It's expensive, but it will last a long time and it fits properly. The FPD bolts to the primary rail. You do NOT want that to leak. It could cost you an engine or even worse...the whole car. If you use an FPD like the Marren piece, you're gonna need some hose and then an adapter on the end of the primary rail.

I think suddenly saving $50 is not gonna seem at all worth it....especially if the new part leaks.

The original questions in this thread:

It seems that no one has any answers to these questions.

Additionally:
1) I'm under no delusions that anything non-stock is going to be cheaper, in fact, I expect that it will be more expensive.

2) The reason I'm interested aftermarket options is the failure mode. The Marren, if the membrane fails, will not leak.

3) I'm also aware of the averaged-over-time cost of a new stock FPD every ten years. (until you can't get them, I suppose)

4) Yes, any poorly assembled system will leak.

So, back to the original question, if anyone has any answers to that: Are there any other aftermarket dampers?

Cheers,
Anders

Just to keep more of this information in one place:

Motor Service International, download the complete catalog, then search for PD. Looks like various OEM FPDs.
Matronics Solid Metal no diaphram, dunno how this would work, exactly. Seems that it's just for the fuel instrumentation, not the delivery.
Synerject Components a couple different types, OEMish
Motronic/Bosch makes one. Couldn't find a web source/specs.

As far as I know, no one has really experimented with aftermarket ones. I think part of it is it's a LOT of work to get down to the FPD - it's just easier to put a good stock one in, button it up, and call it a day.

But, you're more than welcome to blaze a trail .

Yeah, it's pretty deep. I wonder if the difficulty is part of most people's opinion. But that doesn't matter for me: my RX7 is sitting in my garage, my engine is on the engine stand, and it's pretty naked at the moment. My RX7 is not my daily driver, h3ll, it's not even registered right now, so I don't need to hurry and get it back on the road.

The Marren is the only one I've found so far that a) seems connectable without major fabrication and b) seems designed for the application at hand. I've found lots of other pulsation dampening equipment, but it's for solar water pumps, industrial fluid flow, and so on. Hmmm, solar powered 13B.... So using the Marren won't really be trail blazing.

The thing too with the other PD's is whether they're compatible with gasoline. Some materials don't react well with gas. Not to mention heat - that's what really kills the stock FPD's.

The toughest thing is whether the aftermarket one (Marren) is truly better than stock. If the stocker lasts, say, 80,000 miles, it's hard to say how the aftermarket one will look after that point in time. I've installed many bright, shiny, fancy new mods that "just had" to be better than the dirty, worn stock part, but they eventually get dirty and crappy as well.
