This is my fuel pump hanger. I’m restoring my tank with POR15. But what can I do to my fuel pump hanger? Any modifications I can do to replace any part of it or a way I can clean it and maybe treat it? I priced a new one from Ray but you have to buy it with the fuel pump so it was like $450. I thought of sliding hose over the metal piping after sanding it but it seems to have rust inside the piping as well. I’ve seen some upgraded fuel hangers I’m wondering if I can cut out those pipes and put some kind of bulkhead with new pipes or hoses.
Ideally you could take the whole thing apart and find someone that can electroplate the part. That would be a 100% fix.
There are other options - paint and coatings you can do yourself - but I'd do some research on that and find out what works in an environment where it's submerged in fuel.
I found a post on replacing the hard lines with AN fittings. However I need to know what this circled part is and if it’s replaceable. As well if anyone knows how to safely remove the plastic wire connections from the lid.

I’ll see who can do this locally and look into it. I wonder what metal you would use for electro coating with fuel. Right now my idea is to take it apart and cut the hard lines out and cap it. Then I’ll coat it while I do the tank. Order a new gasket, the AN fittings and some submersible fuel hose to replace the hard lines.
You should be able to pick one of these up used from ebay for a reasonable price since may people upgrade fuel hangers for high horsepower cars. I'm running the radium surge tank but hacked my stock one up pretty good.
Honestly I had no idea POR-15 made a fuel tank sealer that would work with E85, but it appears they do now. Good to know. That's cool, electroplating would be the other solution there.
Electroplating is the way to fix this properly. If you cant plate it for some reason your best option would be:
Cap the ends of the fuel lines with well fitting water tight silicone or rubber caps.
Submerge the hanger in normal white vinegar for a few days, occasionally wire brushing any rusty areas, this will dissolve all the rust and leave you with a shiny new looking piece of steel. The rubber caps are to stop you from removing the plating from inside the lines as you cannot replicate any coating in this area at home easily once removed and I imagine it is still intact.

You can probably use engine cleaning brushes to clean out the inside of the piping. Maybe use the brass / goldish ones so that it's a bit more gentle on the material.

I was quoted 300. At that rate I may as well go new. I’m gonna call around and see if there’s anywhere cheaper. The place I called recommended nickle plating. I’ve also been told electroplating is a fairly easy diy but I’ll look into that after I get some more prices.

300 is crazy, my local place would charge around 40 to do that.
Mine was covered in rust from top to bottom and had a sandbag of a filter when I pulled it. I used a wire brush to agitate some super clean that I soaked it in after disassembling the unit. Ended up dropping old tank for a new oem as a peek inside old one was was beginning to look rough (tank baffles still intact).

What does the inside of the hard lines look like? Unless you've been running the car on E85, or something equally corrosive, I'd suspect the inside of those pipes are pretty clean. If so, no reason to replace them with hose/fittings. From the looks of that thing, what I would do is remove all the plastic bits, then put rubber caps over each pipe end and immerse the whole thing in a bucket of Evaporust to get rid of the rust, Then you can paint the cleaned metal it with the same POR15 stuff you're restoring the tank with.

I run premium and premix. But it looks like the inside of the return line is rusty. I think it would be very optimistic to assume it’s just rust that’s settled on the surface, unfortunately. I haven’t checked the inlet like because the pumps still connected but the pump was sucking up rust. If I go the POR 15 route I think it will need to be paired with the fittings and hose.
I removed everything from the hanger and the insides of the hard lines have rust on them. My friend had the idea to just braze weld the same type back on but I think it will be easier to just get the bulk head fittings. If anyone knows of any, I’m all ears. I also cannot seem to remove the wire connector. The metal is pushed in to hold them and I can’t pry it out. Seems the only way I could remove it is by destroying it. Does anyone know what I could replace it with? Maybe a bulkhead wire connector of some sort? I don’t care if the harness isn’t OEM.
