Fuel gauge not working

Hi, I am having a problem with my fuel gauge. It is not showing what my fuel level is but the gas light is working. Is the gas light controlled by the float in the tank or is it something else? If it is controlled by the float then it would be a problem with the cluster itself. Thanks for the help.

gas light and level are separate. If the level is not working, I would first check the connection in the trunk area and if everything looks cleans, it is most likely that the baffles in the tank is broken and it is either hitting up against the float or the float is probably broken off.

Is the gauge indicator sitting at the rock bottom on the gauge?

I had this problem a while back. There is a tiny ground post that likes to rust through and fall apart located on top of the fuel pump assembly. If it breaks off you will have this problem.

Ok thx for the pic but I need to empty the tank... ?

My battery is fixed in the trunk. I used one of small useless bolt in the trunk to fix it. The bolt broke, the battery moved and it made a short circuit. And my fuel gauge is not working since that ****... (yellow low fuel light is working).

You don't need to empty the tank, the fuel pump hanger assembly (that's the top of it in the picture) is under a metal cover under the carpet in your trunk. Quite easy to get to. Unlike in many other vehicles, it only takes about 10 minutes (if you're going slow) to pull our fuel pump assembly.

Im having the same problem. I didnt check the ground yet nor the FP assembly but recently, my gauge has been acting funny.

From gauge needle falling slowly while sitting at a light.

To a couple of days ago when i put the key to ON, then watched the gauge needle go from 1/4 to this, very slowly. lol

Took about a full minute to get there from 1/4 when i put the key to ON.

Funny enough when i started the car, the gauge fixed itself back to 1/4. But again, very slowly though.

Gonna check the ground today and see whats up. I dont wanna pull the assembly because with my luck ill break something then the car will be undriveable. I put 20 bucks gas though so now gauge sits at 1/2 and its fine there. Think i might just always keep tank at 1/2 or more lol

hey guys my gauge use to be perfectly ok, but now when I fill it up, it always stops about 1/8th from the top. I assume its the float in the tank?
Any suggestions?
I'm very **** when it comes to reading how much gas is in this car...

Could be a drop in the voltage signal. Might want to check the ground.
