Front Fascia Question

Anyone removed these two plastic pieces on either side of the opening for the radiator/IC/etc? I think they are behind the driving lights on a touring model, but I have a base model and would like the added airflow.

Are they easy to take off? I can't see behind them to see how they're attached and I don't want to snap the 10 year old plastic...

i think they actually hold/support the front fascia, i've seen them taken out for FMIC's but i don't know if they're removable for stock?

Maybe I'll get a mirror and look from the back. Seems like they're just blocking airflow right now.

I went and tugged on it a bit. The bottom seems loose, like it would just pop out. The top is attached somehow. Maybe they stopped the driving lights from blowing off.

the airflow would not be going into the radiator though unless you made yourself a pair of shields. those are to duct air in to the radiator.

I don't see how the airflow could go anywhere else. If I took off this piece, it just would make the inlet hole larger... I just don't want to break it when removing.

I removed these 3 years ago, just to open up the fascia to the radiator some more. I was in there ducting off the radiator with duct tape, and had the bellypan removed. I believe there were 2 or 4 screws per plastic piece. A total pain in the *** to remove but I think it opens up the fascia for more air.

Great. I'll pull the bellypan and have a look.

Seems like getting rid of these will allow more air in. Again, they appear to have no function for a base model without lights. I'm not even sure what they are for if I did have driving lights. Perhaps they're for the mounting bracket?

Thanks for the help.

John

On a Touring w/ Fog lts They are much smaller I think they are designed to make the airflow equal w/ & w/o the fog lts.

They pop right out. You do have to pull pretty hard. I don't think mine were attached with a screw or anything. You have to pull from the bottom and get it loose than get it unhooked on the top

I got the bottom out (lift & push back), the top out (pull forward, taking the screw out helps), and the side is still in (feels like it pulls forward too, but I don't want to pull harder & break it).

I put it back to original. I'll look again when it's light out. Oh, well.

Maybe they put them in to block airflow to the radiator, since the FD tends to run a bit too cool.

Yikes!
