Front cover, no gasket

Just curious if anyone else has tossed the front cover gasket and just used silicone sealer on the front cover? I still used the nylonbackup ring and the o-ring on an engine I just rebuilt.

My thinking is that w/o the gasket, the front cover will hold the backup nylon ring and the o-ring in place better. Plus I had to deal with a front cover leak before and that was the worst job to fix with the motor still in the car.

What do you guy's think?

i never use the front cover gasket. i had 3 oring failures before contacting racing beat and per their recomendation not reinstalling the gasket, just silicone. just be careful not to plug the metering pump oil hole.

Good point on the OMP hole. I put a little hollow plug in the hole. Did you still use the nylon ring and the o-ring?

a trusted fd mechanic says use a gasket with silicone on both sides. the nylon and the o-ring are definitely required. another mechanic told me you dont need the cover gasket thought. not sure what i am going to do on mine yet.
