Free FD..... i need imputs.

okay heres the deal....

My friend told his friend that I work on rx7s pulling engines and rebuilding them wich is true i have done this in the past 5 times....

So i meet up with this kid and his fd has a bad engine no compression from the rear housing.... so i tell him he needs a rebuild....so he brings his car to a shop and they tell him the same thing......So then he ask me if i can pull the engine and rebuild it for him. I said sure so we got his car towed to my storage unit....and i started working on it.... once i had the engine out and disasembeld to a short block i called him he came by and looked at it and said okay cool...... so the deal was i was gonna pull the engine and strip it down to a short block and he was goanna come get the engine and bring it to conneticut to have it ported and rebuilt i said sure no big deal.....so 2 days later he came and picked the engine up and told me he was gonna bring the engine to conneticut for the porting and rebuilding that same day.. (conneticut is about 4hrs from where we are)..

Now its been 2 month and i been calling emailing and texing his phone and the kid is nowhere to be found even his friends dont know where he is......

now im paying for a storage fee with his rolling fd chassis in it and i dont know what to do.....can i put a mechanics lean on the car? please any imputs on what i should do?

the car has no plates and theres no reg in it.........im gonna car fax it tomorrow to see if its stolen or something....

God forbid nothing happened to him, it would work out the same way as if that person has died, car goes to an immediate family member.

THAT person you can charge for storage but in no way in hell are you ever getting a "free" FD.

Try calling either police information or the DMV. Tell them what you said here and maybe they can track him down using the VIN, if not maybe they can find relatives and contact them. Otherwise maybe the police can just take it off your hands. I'm not sure what your laws are in Mass. but here if a vehicle is left at a mechanics shop for 60 days they can apply for a title and sell it since it's considered abandoned by that time.

notify the police and get a report, that way you have some records, you can then apply for an title after a month or so (depends on your state), the state will try to track down the current or last owner to give them a chance, if no one claims it then its your. time frame depends on your local laws.

this may not be relevent, but my dad is a farm equipment mechanic and this guy left his tractor at our house after my dad took it appart and told him he would need a new engine. The guy never came back and through some law in NYS it became my dad's. Not sure of the specific's but it was dependent on a certain amount of time.

A FD guy from mass, and you work at a Nissan dealer 2 ( I work @ Balise Nissan on the cape)

Toughest part of mass is that you won’t be able to apply for a duplicate title unless you have the reg/ current owner’s sig (mass does compare signatures) sure you can just apply for a duplicate title form but it all depends on how iffy you want to be. once you have the title. Its as good as all yours…or until he comes back around, then the paper trail leads to you and…..

you can simply go to the DMV and put a lien on the car and then after 30 more days transfer the title to you. it should be under 100.00

i did it to a bike when i lived in texas

If you end up with the title, let me know I'll take it off your hands for a fair sum.

I know this may sound obvious but did you check and see if the registration is in the car? If it is use this link and you may be able to track the owner down. https://secure.rmv.state.ma.us/TitleLookup/intro.aspx

If it already has a lien you won't be able to get the title until the loan is paid off anyways.
