get a FPR, make ur life a lot easier

 

the FPD and FPR are two different things. Some people say you dont need it, others will disagree. Mazda put it there for a reason. I personaly kept mine.

FPD = fuel pulsation dampener

As the injectors open and close they can cause a pulsation in the fuel rail, the FPD helps to 'Dampen' that pulsation for an even flow of fuel to the injectors


FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator

Regulates Fuel pressure...

 

The downside is they go out and spill fuel all in your engine bay wonderfully close you your downpipe. If there is documentation of people running without them without problems in the long run it might be something to check out.

 

I saw a thread a while back with links to an aftermarket FPD, might be worth a look.

 

It's really hard to say. It stands to reason that Mazda put it on there for a good reason, and the 787B Lemans car even had a pulsation dampener on it!

This has been debated ad nauseum. Without someone doing a back-to-back test with the pulsation dampener and a bypass on a wideband, there's no good way of knowing what the result would be. Many people who have bypassed it have done so with cars that were VERY not stock, so that's hard to compare to.

alot of AM FPR's claim they dampen also, so you may want to check into that if your going to upgrade teh fuel rail.

 

I just replaced mine even though it looked tip-top -- I didnt want to risk it going out and since there is so much in the air about how safe it would be without one I chose to just replace it.

Actual replacement wasnt too bad -- took me 5 minutes after I got the rat nest out of the way.
