Fmic vs smic

I know this have been discused but it's always ending with v-mount. I use my Fd for drifting, so what is better. I have a good price for a pettit coolcharge 2. But a greddy type m is very cheap too. I know the best is a v-mount but I have a lot to do on my FD this year and I don't want to keep the stock I/C. I'm on a stock twin setup.

Thanks

If you are drifting chances are your going to be running into things which means if you have a front end collision your FMIC will be damaged. At least with a SMIC you'll only take out the radiator at best.

-1, don't base your decision on that statement

Drifting is track use, and for track use most everyone uses a SMIC.

The quality of the Greddy M Spec is under that of a quality SMIC such as the Coolcharge II.

The main reason for buying a SMIC in my mind is that a FMIC blocks off air to the radiator because it is placed in front of the radiator. Also, maybe negligable but the shorter tubing of an SMIC would give better boost response.

The stock IC has a volume of 129~ cu. in, the Coolcharge II has a volume of 365.7 cu. in so already there you are in good shape.

think about this also. if you have a front mount for drifting and your waiting to go or just finished a run and waiting to go again, your just sitting there and chances are temps will go up because of the blocked rad... i base this on what i read from people in city traffic and such.. i could be wrong.

Thanks for the inputs, I think I will go with the coolcharge2. I'm just not sure if it's the cooler at idle. Cause usually we wait more than we drift.

The stocker has plastic endtanks and aftermarket IC's have all metal construction, naturally metal heatsoaks more. But from my experience idle air intake temperatures with a SMIC are around or a little higher than what "in motion" temps are with the stock intercooler.

V-mount pwns both.

But seriously, i think that the smic will be a better application for what your doing. Based on reasons already stated above.

I had a FMIC on a previous FD and it murdered the A/C by dumping all the heat on the condenser. I'm going SMIC this time.
