Fluidyne Radiator for A/T Car

Does anyone know if the Fluidyne Radiator is just for a 5-speed car or can it be used in the Automatic with no modifications? I was considering one, but came across an advertisement that said the radiator was specific for the 5-speed car. Most other website descriptions did not stipulate this.

Anyone know for sure, please reply.

I don't see any reason why it would matter.

The automatic radiator has a build-in transmission fluid cooling coil. You can by pass it if where you live the ambient temp does not get too cold. The build-in transmission fluid cooling coil also acts as a transmission fluid temperature maintainer. The transmission fluid needs to get to its operating temperature just as the engine oil. So when there is not too much load on the transmission, the build-in transmission cooler can still maintain the tranny fluid temp using the heat transfer from the coolant. Sounds complicated isn't it?

They are 5 spd only. The only thing you could do is to buy a seperate tranny cooler and mount it where the 2nd oil cooler goes.

Auto's come stock with a tranny cooler in the R1 2nd oil cooler location, but they also have the fluid routed through a coil in the radiator.

I was wondering the same- Maybe if we can get 5-10 AUTO owners together we could get FLUIDYNE to do a run of rads w/ the trans coolers?

You don't need the line running through it. Loop it with a piece of hose and be done with it. Or my advice is to get another universal tranny cooler and mount it behind the one already in the auto and loop the system together. There's no problem with running the "5-speed" radiator on an auto.

Thanks for all the information. I guess I will just be careful with the A/T and probably bypass the line. I guess another option would be to run a solid snaked loop of hard piping along the radiator and tie the lines to this. It would not be as efficient of a heat transfer as the original, but may be better than just looping the in and out from the original radiator.

Thanks again,
Tim

I had a Mazdacomp radiator custom made with the auto tranny cooler built in. One of maybe two out there, the other being in a Forum member in Arkansas that I refered. It was $600, but I think its worth it, especially in Houston.....
