first real power upgrade exhaust mid and down pipe

So should I hold out till I buy an Apex Power FC + Commander to avoid over boosting? My mechanic was telling me u can change out the wastgate/ beside just boring it out or something to prevent this.
I am in no rush since i just had the motor rebuilt last year and no I didn't blow it lol preempted rebuild.
The only real upgrade is the 99 spec Efini Twin Turbos
.

I would rather wait and be safe then put it on and go booom

it's a greddy evo 2 not sure what brand the rest is but it came from japan my friend brought them over for me.

Do not put the midpipe on w/o a computer! You should be fine with the down pipe and catback on the stock computer. You should have a boost gauge to watch the boost level.

I'm certainly no expert here, but I try to learn from what I read. From what I understand if you want a straight exhaust you'll need to do a few things to control boost. So yes, absolutely a computer. Additionally, it seems that you "should" have a dedicated boost controller, have your waste gate ported and possibly the inclusion of block off plates.

Again, not an expert, but hopefully those more knowledgeable will chime in, along with your own adventure in researching this subject.

Hope this helped.

Mike

since you have those parts, i'd wait to install and buy a PFC.

no sense in having one part not installed, just teasing you

Will wait till I get the Apex Power FC + Commander, to put the whole set up on. I have a good bost gauge. Had her for like 6 years so no rush but have always keep her stock but now I want a little more power and picked all this up for nothing so couldnt pass.

If get a crazy hair up my *** I will just put the down pipe on.

I used to have that EVO catback on my first FD. I wish they still made it.

Power FC if you want the midpipe on.

I have had the evo 2 on my Acura gsr, Toyota gts and now it will be on the rx7. I guess its fate.

This car is so different in how u tune it compared to everything else I have ever had. Planning and patience is a big part..

Just a note, the PFC doesn't make it "safe". Overboost can still cost you an engine regardless of the tool being used for engine management. Proper boost control along with a "tuned" PFC will make the car "safe".

Your mechanic is a bit off. The twins have a built in wastegate it can't be changed out. The only thing you can do is port it which you will have to do if you go with a full open exhaust. The pfc can be used for a boost controller but it won't help the boost creep you'll get from an open exhaust.

So even with a pfc and a boost controller and a ported wastage, you run the risk of boost creep with a straight through exhaust system. By keeping the stock cat and just run the dp and exhaust make it safer?

Also will the efini twins have any negative or positive difference with boost creep

I have read so many diffrent things about this problem.................

That's the spirit, spend $7k because you didn't want to upgrade injectors.

Yes, but with a PFC, you can TUNE for this so that you dont pop your motor

IIRC, no one has mentioned anything about boost creep with the efini twins, mostly because they are just slightly more efficient, and their wastegate boost is a bit higher
