Question Fire hazard

I'm new to the FD's, I was wondering what is the possibility of these cars to catch on fire and what mods can prevent it. Another question, when I got her she was idleing around 700-800 rpm, now shes idleing around 1400 rpm, any ideas?

1. Check with Mazda or a dealer to see if their database shows that all the factory recalls were performed on your car. They can look it up with your VIN. Two recalls related to engine fires - one for coolant leaks, the other for fuel leaks, IIRC.
2. Install a fire extinguisher.

And make sure your radiator cap is the 0.9 bar (13 psi) one, not the 1.3 bar (19psi) one. The 1993 models had a recall on this, and the later years came w/ the 0.9 bar (13 psi) one standard. You don't need an overpressurized coolant system bursting a hose or what not, and catching fire all over your engine bay...

Also, if you get a fire extinguisher (which I highly recommend you do), the rule of thumb is, if it can fit on the A-pillar, and it's shiny, it'll look great but prob die w/ you You need a 2.5lb unit at the bare minimum, but a 5lb bottle is preferrable (and I suggest a Halon unit, from www.h3r.com).

and as far as the idle issue, try checking your choke wax which is located behind the throttle, reset the ecu, or adjust it with the little screw which is on the throttle and see what happens.
