What a waste of a FD...

There should be a law against this sort of thing. Or at least be able to verify that the kid knows how to drive a "less forgiving car"; along with, if you run it hard **** will break. Then you be broke and saying how unreliable the RX7 is and thats is a peice of crap, blah blah blah...

Do us "car" people a favor and sell it to some one who can take care of it and not give the rest of us bad names.

I never raced anyone hardly with either of my fds. The first one looked and sounded fast and was pretty damn quick mid 12s all the time. This one is the scrary fast one but it looks stock and is very quiet until I use the cutout hahaha

racing is okay with this car! just drive slower than even normal cars in the rain and face the facts that you could get arrested if they catch you speeding or racing.
I like to do bursts of acceleration and then slow down to the speed limit a couple seconds later. that gives a small allowance for a cop to see that.

Be careful, you don't people to think you are not the most amazing street racer of the great state of Nebraska.

My name won't be on the insurance at all. I have a 97 blazer and my name is on that so i dont have to have my name on this car in order to drive it, but if i get in an accident that is my fault the insurance has to go under my name and i will pry be looking to sell the car lol.
That sure doesn't sound legal, although I have no clue what pry is suppose to mean here.

There pry are a lot of ppl that like to race on here but they don't admit it cause they found out how they reacted to everything i said. Oh well i'll live i wont take any of it to personally.
Or they realised how stupid they were being and stopped, unlike you.

That fits for this last case, but what about all the other times hes said it? I have a feeling the pry actually fitting was more of an accident.

Thanks.

Mr. MazdaSpeed93, how much do you know about RX-7's? Most people on this site don't use them for drag racing, because of a few reasons:

1. Hard launches induce rear wheel hop, which leads to broken drivetrain components. These cars were not built for drag launches, the independent rear suspension and axles are not as tough as the ones on Camaros or Mustangs. If you do a lot of drag launches (from stoplights, for instance) you will end up breaking your car quickly.

2. The twin-turbo motor produces a lot of heat, and the 93-95's have an inefficient cooling system at low speeds. If you're going to be doing full-throttle runs from 0-100 and then slow down , turn around, and get back in line to race again, your radiator is not going to be getting enough airflow and you're very likely to overheat your motor and kill your engine.

3. Parts for RX-7's are expensive. You can't buy a new motor, they aren't being produced. If you blow your motor, you're looking at around $5K to rebuild it, plus a couple weeks' downtime.

4. RX-7's are rare. I'm sure you know this because you've searched for one. The main reason that many of us don't street race our cars is because we don't want to risk having anything bad happen to them. Most street-racers are BAD DRIVERS, they can't control their cars at the limits when it comes to braking or steering to avoid obstacles or unforseen consequences. Even if you don't crash your car street-racing, what's to say nobody will crash into you?

5. MAIN REASON MOST RX-7 OWNERS DON'T BOTHER WITH STREET RACING: it's not nearly as much fun as racing at a real 1/4 mile track, autocrossing or open-tracking. Check out an autocross someday, it's a great opportunity to learn what your car can do. Don't feel bad if a little '89 Civic hatchback beats you, because autocrossing is all about driver skill and having a lightweight car with good tires and suspension. There is a saying that is very appropriate in your case: POWER IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL.

Go learn to control your car, instead of just beating it up at the street-races all the time. I'm not saying don't street-race at all, but open your mind and realize that there are better things out there. Someday you'll look back and laugh that you used to have so much fun driving in a straight line for 13-16 seconds at a time, doing nothing but shifting gears. *yawn*

Good luck with your new car, please be responsible and don't mess it up. The last thing this club needs is another rotary that doesn't run. Plan on spending 50-100 / month on your car to keep it in good running condition. You're saving at least twice that much money on insurance, it's nice that your parents are helping you out.

all my idiot friends always say, "yo yo, someone called you out, go race him yo".. im like ok and? then they be like, "why you get an rx7 if you not going to race?"..

i intend to bring my car to the track to see what i and the car can do.. i dont want to do that often cause i have no money just in case something blows. just having the car and driving it normal is already a thrill..

Scotty305 believe me i dont plan on beating the hell out of my car. You seem like a cool guy. Your the only one that didnt just start talkin **** for no reason you made you statements and i respect that. I will take everything you said into consideration. I most likely wont race at stoplights mainly because of the cars power all you do is spin. If someone wants to race me that bad they will have to wait anyways cause there is a new clutch in the car with 200 miles on it. My friend wants to race me he has a Eclipse GS-T. Tonight we were driving like 25mph and i was in 2nd and just flew past him and shut it down. I dont want to do anything to my car that would hurt it severley, believe me i love RX-7's just as much as anyone on this site. I dont plan on racing it hard all night maybe 1 or 2 times when someone wont leave me alone. BUT I WONT DO IT FROM A STOP since you said that it will hurt that ****. I never really knew that. Any input that you can give me about my new car would be nice. I know a lil bit about the RX-7 but not as much as you.

To be honest, I'll usually talk trash to brash street-racers like yourself, but it seemed like the guys had already taken care of that. Also, a guy who races in my club mentioned one day that he wished he'd heard of autocrossing sooner, he wouldn't have wrecked so many vehicles doing stupid boys-with-cars stuff.

My advice: learn how to drive your car, and learn how to work on your car. Learning how to work on the car can be accomplished a few ways: if you haven't already, take an auto shop class, or spend a few hours reading the entire automotive section of www.howstuffworks.com . Check out the newbie/FAQ post in this 3rd Gen Section: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

Follow every link on there, it should take you about a day or a week, depending on how much time you've got. It will be time well spent. Pay special attention to the "reliability modifications" info.

Re: learning to drive, there's a great website www.turnfast.com , but I believe it's still down for maintenance. Look at your school or public library for any race driving book by Bob Bondurant, Skip Barber, or Carroll Smith. That's the head-knowledge. The key is practicing in a safe controlled environment where you can push your car to its limits without fear. For me, it's autocrossing. http://www.scca.org/Solo/Solo2.asp?IdS=0028A3-669C640&x=050|030&~=

There's a great thread on here somewhere, something to do with "spend $1000" modifying someone's car, search for it, a LOT of forum veterans gave their advice, I also listed a bunch of basic maintenance that most cars need right after you purchase them. If you haven't already, change your oil and spark plugs and fuel filter.

The guy i bought the car from said that there is a drving school thing in Iowa. They spend a week teaching you how to drive your car and teach you things about your car that you probably dont know. I might do that i dont know yet. I know that the oil just got changed. I may have to do the plugs and fuel filter. I look into that more.

If you have no money to maintain this car, I feel sorry for you because it's a pain. I once new a guy who owned a Ferrari 355, and an FD. He sold the FD because of the maintenance issue. He said it was worse than his 355. But hey, 18 years olds know everything.

i think the new car is leaking boost. When i get it up to like 5000-5500 rpms it bumps a lil. Like it may be missing or something. Pretty sure its a boost leak or the plugs??
