"Feel Good" Story
"Feel Good" Story
I just thought it would be nice to share a little experience I had while driving my FD this weekend.
So I'm cruising on the interstate Saturday morning with relatively light traffic, when I spot a new, all black Porsche GT3 ahead. Now mind you, where I live, it's not all that rare to see GTR's, 911's of all trims, etc. But under these circumstances, where I see one on a nearly empty highway, while driving my FD early in the morning? Pretty special.
Anyway, we're both in the far left lane, going about the speed limit. I caught up to him and moved over a lane, staying about a car length behind, to admire it a little. Realizing we are about to be trapped behind a couple slower moving trucks, I move two lanes over and speed up to pass the small congestion, leaving the GT3 behind, and thinking to myself, "this guy is probably going to come up here to "show me who's boss"".
Sure enough, the GT3 driver breaks from the "trap" and comes up to where I am, but he doesn't pass. He just matches my speed , which is about 70 mph, on cruise, and stays about even with my rear wheel.
As he slowly inches up even with me, I can see that he's on his cell, seemingly not paying me any attention at all, even though we are virtually the only two cars on the road. I just keep driving and minding my business. He moves over a lane, leaving an empty lane between us. We rode like this for about two minutes, when suddenly I hear 3 honks.
I look to my left, only to see this 55 (or so) year old GT3 driver, now off of the phone, pointing and giving ME the thumbs up while mouthing "nice car" to ME!! Talk about a pleasant surprise! And here, I had the guy pegged as just another pompus Porsche driver. Shame on me for generalizing, huh?
Made my day. Long live the FD!

Thanks. And yeah, its crazy we found that particular spot because we were practically surrounded by construction fences and cones, etc.
After all these years, thats the first time i saw a pic of your car lol
But yeah same story of some sort happened to me last summer. I was driving on the highway when i spot a nice silver carerra on the other section of the highway (one is cars only, the other is cars/trucks). I was in the cars/trucks section and i notice he kept pace with me. But he was a bit far away, i couldnt make out the driver, just the car. But picture it about 8 lane distance. Thats about how far he was to the my side.
Anyway we eventually lose each others' sight because of other highways merging into ours and there were too many cars. I pull over the first rest stop i see, becasue i had to go to the ATM because i didnt have enough cash to pay my tolls. When i pulled into the lot, i saw that carerra parked, alone, away from everyone lol. Just like how i would do it. But the driver wasnt there. I did the same, parked about 50 feet away, also in my own spot, away from everyone else.
I get out, start walking towards the inside and i see a dude standing there looking at me walk towards the door and he's smiling. Idk i thought he was gay so i didnt even smile back, so i walked right by him and went inside. Did my ATM deal and went back outside. About 3 minute deal.
I walk to my car and i look over to the carerra and its the same dude who smiled at me before, looking at my car, but he was looking at my car from his car. I proceed to get in my car and start her up, getting my money ready for the toll. I look over to my left one more time to the carerra and the dude is taking pics with his cell phone. Then he smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I smiled and then took off. He just kept on staring with his cell phone pointed at my car (i guess taking video).
Thought it was pretty cool. I know its not an expensive porsche owner but just figured good to see people who buy these types of cars, still appreciate our cars.

Hi! I'm the previous owner. Great to see the car is still out there! I'm happy to answer any questions you have.
I got the car in '03, completely stock. A friend of mine, and fellow RX-7 lover, found the car on eBay, and flew up to MD to buy it from it's original owner. He then drove the car back to Atlanta, to give to his wife. Well, she decided she wanted an automatic instead, so he sold the car to me, since it was the exact trim/color/etc. that I'd always wanted.
The Bose was still working, when I sold it. It was in a fender bender, in '07, which is when I went to the wider fenders, new front end, etc. I'll try to get some pictures for you, if you'd like...
Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.
