Fed up with this car
I go to install my Jacob's fc1000 cause my car runs like ****, even tho ive spent close to $14000 at one shop, they cant even make it run right...
well i'm taking off my intake manifold and i cant get it off, i dont know how to get it all the way off. I'm pissed cause i cant find out how to do it, and i have noone to show me how.
Then i realized i didnt even have a place to mount the fc1000, go figure. So i hit my head on my hood and it starts bleeding...
All ive ever wanted to do was to be able to work on my own car, but this is pissing me off, if i cant even get the intake manifold off, how am i supposed to do anything? All anyone has done is make fun of me cause im so young owning this car, but noone has offered to even teach me how to do things right.
If anyone has a thread on takin the manifold off and how to get the the coils, i really need it about now...and if anyone has a picture of where they mounted a FC1000 in an FD, i could use some ideas...
i need a few minutes to calm down, hopefully someone out there can show me how to work this bitch.

Be careful when you try to pull off the manifold. If you havent taken off the vacuum hoses connected to it (kinda hard with it still on), it will break as you pull off. Thats how i broke 2 check valves and like 2 vacuum lines.
I believe there are 5 or 6 nuts that come off from the top. Make sure you get all 4 screws by the TB off so it can slide off.
And this is the tricky part, there is actually a hanger, i believe right where the UIM and TB join, its held up 2 hex bolts that need to be loosen cause theres where it snugs in. You will see it.

it's not about being young...it's about being patient and careful.
Modding this car is one of the most fun and frustrating things to do. Take your time, search the forum and do it right ONCE! Breaking things because your in rush or not prepared just adds to the cost and frustration.
here is a step by step on dale's website. You should check his other how to's. It is really a great resource.

Also, what is more concerning is why you are adding it. What is your car doing that you think an amp will help?

Here's a write up on how to remove the UIM:

Damn you beat me to it. Yeah, just take your time. It' not about age, just be patient and careful.

It's impressive that you want to learn about this automobile and hopefully others. But first I suggest that you get a 1993 rx7 shop manual and begin studying it over. Do you ahve the tools ? Do you have a garage to work out of ? Removing the intak manifold is rather easily done IF you have the mechanics skill and a shop manual. Just jumping into it and removing things will only cost you more is parts that you break or things left off when put back together. Take a break, study the manual and then devise a plan
Here is a simplified how to:
0. put bandaid on bleeding head.
1. disconnect battery, drain coolant down
2. remove inlet plastic elbow and hose attached to it
3. remove the vac hoses behind the TB - label/photo them first.
4. remove Throttle cable and cruise cable
5. remove TB harness on TPS
6. remove coolant hoses on TB
7. remove 4 nuts on TB and remove TB from intake
8. remove all the vacuum hoses, 2 large and rest small from the intake manifold. Again photos and label each for reassembly later
9. remove the wiring harness to the air temp sensor under the intake
10 remove any other harness on the intake
11 remove bolt that holds IM to a brace on the front side, above coils
12. remove bolts that hold auto dipstick ( if auto ) and the ground wire
13. remove the bolts hold two solenoids on the front ( WG solenoids )
14. remove bolt that hold vac chamber on front
15. Remove the bolts/nuts that bolt the upper intake to the lower intake
lift the intake straight up. DO NOT drop anything down into the Lower Intake runners. Put clean rags in the lower intake runners to protect them
I may of left something out, but this is just from memory.
good luck, tom

i tried to take everything off...manifold, throttle body, and elbow
course this is cause im a fukin noob and noone told me how to do it before...damn manual doesnt show how to take the damn thing off either...well not all the parts i looked in.
edit: i have the shop manual and have spent time reading it.
dame, you need to drain the coolant for taking off the manifold?
and another freakin problem i ran into was that the geniuses at my shop decided to zip tie a lot of **** together, making it hard to remove hoses and ****
i am running rich from a rich XS engineering tune, my idle is a lil rough/stumbly sometimes, and my car bucks...i know i need a tII leading coil as mine will get fried, but my car has every bolt on besides igntion

you should not need to remove the manifold to install the jacobs unit. At the most you will only need to remove the throttle body. Actually, all you really need to get at is the harness connectors for the coils, and they are accessable with only removing the intake elbow. I advise that you buy a spare coil harness so that you can remove the jacobs unit easily when thing go wrong.
the coil harness is about 12' long and removes pretty easily.

You'll be fine, just don't rush anything. It's ok if you make mistakes, even the best make mistakes. I have my FC1000 mounted by the passenger side headlight, obviously I don't have the stock airbox anymore. I used the old bracket that the airbox sat on, drilled holes on the side and used it to mount the amp. Good luck, make sure you double check your work on the coils.

Nope, it's fine. Ran power cord to battery by the front, behind bumper. The cords to coil and igniter I ran behind airpump across to coils. You'll see what I'm talking about when you install it, luckily they gave you a lot of wire length to work with.
By the way, here's the wiring. If you're unsure about anything, ask before you turn the key.
black to blue/yellow to coil
white to black/red to coil
red to black/red wire off of stock harness
green to yellow/blue wire off of stock harness
Heavy red to power
heavy black to ground
brown is an optional tach wire

my shop used a form-a-gasket material in between the elbow and the TB, so i gotta wait for my friend to get here for the extra muscle/leverage to help me get it off, anything else i should know about before i rip the thing off? any sensors or vacuum lines?

when you say for example, black to blue/yellow to coil, i have those little circle connectors on the black wire, how do i connect them to the blue/yellow wire?

I'm not sure why you are still asking questions. MAYBE you were too upset to check the link which were posted by other forum members. So here it is again.
http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=63&mnu=5
I just pulled out my UIM 2 days ago after reading the link.

pry bar????
do you want to cause a defect in the metal and a permanent leak??
maybe you should wait until tomorrow and get some help from someone on the forum.
AND READ THE LINKS!

This whole thread is frightening. Pry bar? Ack!
Since when does anyone drain coolant to take off the manifold? Save yourself some time and stick a rag under the throttle body when you pull the coolant hoses, it's the high point of the system so there's not going to be much in the way of coolant to drain out.
