Unhappy FD won't sell

Hey Guys, I been trying to sell my FD for a while now and seems like no one wants a modded car. The price is so low its ridiculous. I really don't have the time to wrench on it anymore but looks like I might have to.

I need it gone in the next 2 months, really hate to sell it but I need something new. Here is a built thread that shows the condition and what has been done to it. I guess hard to sell too because a ton of people are scared of rotors or something.

What do you think they should go for right now? Should I spend the time and money to return it to stock just to sell it? Or part it out? Or let it go for super cheap just to get out of it. Never had so much trouble selling a car.

Looks to me like you took it off the market for a while, and now you are putting back on. Doesn't seem like it has been an excessively long time since it has been for sale again. I think the car is worth around $14k or so. Keep bumping it and get detailed pictures up, should sell.

Your price is more than reasonable. I just think you picked a bad time of the year. Christmas is around the corner, so I'm sure many families are gearing up for either buying presents or taking expensive holiday trips. Not many people will have the money to buy a "fun" car at the moment.

I also think being in CA, smog is always an issue. Since you went single turbo and RX7s are known to not be smog friendly, it's another hard selling point for someone new to RX7s.

Good luck though. Let me know if you do decide to part it out. I will likely pick up some parts from you.

Ok so I just looked at your for sale thread. Car is beautiful but IMO that is a rather weak ad: Removing the sale and then going back to try and sell it on the same thread just confuses people. In addition that the ad only contains two pictures only. None of the engine, no interior shots, no dyno graphs either. Good description though. Number one rule of buying a modded car is to assure that it is was a quality build. Nothing shows that better than a video at idle, WOT, and cruise. For all the buyer knows is that yes it looks pretty but how does it run?

Go a back close the thread and create a new one (past xmas) with extensive exterior, engine bay, and interior shots, post a dyno chart and include a video. If that doesn't sell you car I don't know what will.

Just not much value in the parts on the car so it would be really hard to make anything returning it to stock.

Budget turbo kit 1200 max
VMIC 500 (not a popular and poor rep)
PFC 600
Coilovers 500
99 tails 350
injectors 300
fuel pump 150

Now replace all the above with stock parts, fix the oil leak, find AC parts, charge the system etc...etc.... THEN sell for 14k IF the body and interior are nice and everything is working perfectly

As is it's a budget built single turbo car with a few issues and that's going to be extremely hard to sell for anything over 12k IMO.

You are basically between a rock and hard place. Dump it for 10 or keep trying at 12 but you may even need to include the wheels.

Good luck

Tough to smog that bad boy in CA. Unless you want to PM me some tips.
These cars tend to sell faster after tax refunds and moving into summer weather, fall/winter can be tough.

They are right about not having a very good description in the for sale ad, I don't think the pics are very good either.

Now, I am not saying any of this is true, but if you want to know what is in the mind of potential buyers that don't know rotary cars I can tell you that there were a few flags raised that would be a concern for me buying it from a stranger....

1. You wrote a little about the parts you added when you put it back up for sale but you never addressed any of the issues it had when you first put it for sale (exhaust leak, rough idle, oil leak).

2. No info on the turbo, is it a no-name turbo, awesome name brand? No dyno kind of goes along with this.

3. No interior pics and no "good" engine bay pics. Receipts also help Like was mentioned above, a video would really help, a long one that showed cold start, warming up, cruising, boosting.

Obviously, I think the car is nice so please don't take this as a dig on the car in any way. Just want to help you sell for top dollar to a loving home.

As others have pointed out...this is NOT a good time to try to sell a car like this. People have Christmas on their minds and budgets for gifts, etc.
Anyone who lives where the weather has become truly 'winter' isn't in the mood to consider a sports car, lol!

Lots of things conspiring against you...kind of like trying to sell a boat or a motorcycle...it just doesn't happen as easy as in the Spring.

I was looking thru local CRAIGSLIST ads the other day and found a local car with similar mods and in good shape, and he was asking $13K for it. It has sold already.

Fritz dropping a lot of truth here. I considered the car but for me to ship it and deal with the AC and other issues along with the budget turbo the numbers didnt add up. Its worth the $12k but not a steal on factory wheels and with the issues and missing parts.

OP:

djseven and fritz are exactly right.

i hate to say it, but it's relatively "easy" to make a budget single turbo car, and you've done that with a car that started as one of the less desirable combos (red/tan 93)

what people are willing to actually pay money for (when it comes to FDs at least) is functioning AC/heat, nice black interior, good suspension bushings, and CW or CYM car color. (and this is with them already expecting the car to have a rebuilt engine with good compression).

with my previous FD i ended up parting out all my mods (nice EFR turbo kit, fuel system, haltech, engine, trans, exhaust, VMIC, custom AC system, coilovers, etc.) and sold the car as a roller for 7000 and ended up getting up to about 18k total. and that car was a more desirable BLACK INTERIOR car. check my build thread. it was a solid car that was totally reliable and saw 5 track events and had functioning air conditioning. no one would pay more than maybe 15k for it on a good day, and that was with all the "kinks" worked out, nothing missing, and my 18" RPF1 wheels/tires. so i parted out the mods and got what i wanted out of it.

then i paid 18k for a nice white 94 car that was almost completely stock.
