Yeah, this was the first time making a claim with them, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Hope they don't use it as an excuse to jack up my rates too much when it's renewal time in January!

The video in the next to last post in this thread shows how the trim is removed: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-gene...-trim-1153622/

This guy was able to purchase new trim, and was removing the old trim to prepare for a paint job, so he wasn't concerned with re-using the old trim. But the video shows the removal process and why it would be very difficult removing the trim intact if you had tried.
a heat gun would get it out better, but it will likely be stretched and deformed no matter what you do. the butyl sealer for the windshield does bond to the trim, heat is the key to softening both.

Glass

Where did you order it from? Currently need one. Safelite initially said they could do it, but came back today and said they couldn't get one. Mazda did have some a month ago, but i waited to long and now they are saying 4 months to get one.

Then yesterday I paid a local mobile installer ive previously used to install it in my shop for $180. Got the windshield molding through Atkins for $112. The glass is blemish free and has the tint color I was seeking. Some things I just cant justify going factory just to go factory. I get that insurance will reimburse in either case, but I just don't see the value in spending the extra time and effort to get a product that is absolutely identical.

I got my glass & associated OEM trim bits from Ray Crow. I'm lucky in that I live about a 20 min drive from the Mazda dealership (NuCar Mazda, New Castle, DE) that Ray ships his parts to, so I didn't have to pay shipping, and since I had the job done by NuCar's collision shop, I didn't have to schlep the glass delivery to another local shop.

My past experience with aftermarket glass on the few daily drivers I replaced OEM glass with aftermarket on hasn't been that great - you usually get what you pay for. Sure the much cheaper glass looks the same and is just as clear, etc., but I found it's just not as durable. In daily commuter duty, the same kind of minor sand/grit/rock impacts that would have barely scratched or pitted the surface of my old OEM glass ends up with bullseye's or outright cracks on the new aftermarket glass. As long as it's still available, I'll opt for OEM glass on the 7 every time.

I ordered through a shop here in the Seattle area called Speedy Glass. They are a a PNW company I believe. They are just a typical, larger glass company, similar to Safelite but a bit smaller of course. I wouldnt use them for the install side, but for sourcing the Fuyao glass they were great. I would just call some local to you glass shops and have them check within their network. Everything I found online was much more expensive and also charged very expensive freight shipping. I think you will be saving a lot of money if you can get a local shop to order it for you and they can deal with the shipping costs.
