Windshield trim

Has anyone had their windshield trim replaced, without replacing the windshield itself? I have an OEM 93 FD and the trim is warped, but the windshield is fine.
if so, how much, and what kind of place did you use?

Paging @Snipe G I know he did it on his car recently.

He talked to a local windshield shop that I know and trust and they would only do it if they could remove the windshield. His trim was falling apart from being in the sun for ages, I think he just pulled it all out and stuffed the new trim in.

Yeah. Windshield is easy. But let the new molding lay out for a few days unfolded.

The rear hatch is different, should take the glass out.

I replaced both the front and rear molding with the glass installed. It’s a little more tedious then with it out. Once you get it pulled up, it comes out relatively easily. Couple things to note ~ on the front glass at the top corners there’s a small rubber piece thats glued to the body ( well it’s sorta an adhesive ) you should be careful to not destroy them if you can. The rear, mine split at the seem where the grove portion tucks under the glass. I used a plastic pic to dig it out and like the rest, it comes out easily once you get it started. Laying all the molding out in the sun for a couple hours before install and using painters tape after to make sure they lay flat helps. The fms covers this in ~ S-22 thru S-26. Good luck.

Sorry Dale, apparently I haven’t been on in a while. 😀. Like gdub29e said, easy to do. A Miata guy made a video as well.

Windshield Trim Removal Video

I'm in the process of prepping my car for paint and was looking for info on how to remove the windshield trim and if windshield removal was required. Through searches I got mixed reviews, so made a video of the removal on my car for anyone looking to do this in the future. The trim does not go under the windshield, so windshield removal is not required. The amount of windshield adhesive that squeezes out during the original install may make the trim harder or easier to remove. I also show how the clips in the upper corners and across the top of the windshield are installed on my car. Mine matched the orientation show in the manual image below. The Miata video I saw installed them in the reverse direction.
