Fd vs. Gto
Just mag racing here, but according to motortrend the GTO 04 350hp version clocks off at 13.62 @ 104.78.
The stock FD depending on the quality of driver can pull a mid 13 to flat 14 at around 100 trap from what I've seen. with your mods and a healthy FD, with a beutiful launch, you should squeak by him at the end of the 1/4 but not by much.
Your description of your car's health would be an issue for me coupled with the fact that a turbo car launch is alittle harder to master than a V8 normally aspirated launch.
The LS1 powerplant is nothing to be downplayed by any means though, so don't get overly confident, because there is a really good possiblity that it will come down to driver error since the cars are soo close. good luck.

I don't know you, you may have been Karting since you were 8 or something and have a lot of driving experience, but at 17 the chances are you don't.
I'm not trying to put you down, but you have a really nice car at an age when you can really enjoy it - why would you want to risk losing it?
Just walk away from it ...

Im sure with a pro driver a FD could pull off something sub 14, stock, but a 17 yo, I doubt it. Stock FDs are not set up to weight transfer to the rear axle and hole shot, its much more intended for handling.
You also probably have tires on that dont have much in the way of a sidewall that runs at a high psi, too. You can make a FD holeshot but I doubt youre going to do that
That said, a GTO has more torque off idle than most FDs have, period, and suspension more setup for dragracing. If its from a roll, sure, if you brake boost - from a line hes most likely going to EAT you.

For your age, that is a very responsible outlook. Ego versus Risk. You are making the right choice to stay away from any type of hard driving untill you have all of the bugs worked out of the system. Good luck and I hope they are all easy fixes for you.
Hey, thanks for all the responses everyone! I'm gettin the car looked at here sometime next week, but I pretty sure that the apex seals are blown, like hey were when I bought it. Does this type of thing happen alot or something?
It does for turbo rotaries that dont have very good boost control and tuning
You knock from overboost, or too lean, or too advanced spark, seals break, time for a rebuild. Not fun. Say hello to the rotaries achilles heel.

If you race him before having your motor rebuilt you're an idiot.
It's one thing to have low compression and then rebuild.
It's another thing to BLOW your motor and not have sh*t TO rebuild.
Don't be stupid.
Street-port with 3mm seals? Right.. Hope you've got a decent savings account goin', bud. That's a little unrealistic. That's all I'm sayin'.

I'm in my mid-30's but if he lives in BFE it would take less than a month to learn how to launch his car great with consistency. That assuming he didn't break something first. I was dragging a 12 second 4 speed Nova at 17. I think that was harder to launch then my fd, 550+ lbs or torque isn't easy to control. The GTO is rather easy to launch but he doesn't stand a chance from a rolling start. The GTO's street start times are just as fast as dead stop launch while the fd looses about a second.

Timmy, does your gauge measure vacuum or just boost? If it measures vacuum, let the car warm up and (as jxy nyc has already said) see how many inches of vacuum you have at idle.

the only 04 gto i driven was some drift car...but a stock 05 with the ls2 was way fkin faster.
the weight makes a huge difference, i think a stock rx7 is still faster..than an 04 i mean. the 05...wheeee. but its still maybe around as fast as my car with just a few basic mods.
but your young, for the love of god be careful with that car and dont go around racing everywhere
