Besides, c'mon now, how can you explain the FD's falling value over the past few years, yet the fog light switch went from $35 to $40 to $70 to $90, then up to $120??

As for insurance, contrary to popular belief, the value of the car is NOT the largest or most important factor for the insurance premium. Call up your insurance company, and tell them you have $30K in mods, and you want to insure them. I'd be surprised if they wanted more than $500 or so more per 6 months...I know, because I called and asked. They only wanted $200 more per 6 months. They are *much* more worried about a) expensive electronic parts that cost tons to replace in the event of even a minor accident (which is why German cars' insurance is through the roof), and b) medical and property insurance coverage. Replacing your $100,000 car is cake compared to the $4 million lawsuit they get hit for when you injure or kill someone.

Talk to your local insurance agent. You'd be surprised at what you learn

~Ramy
you're generally right, for example rotor housings keep going up and up and up and up. but the fog light switch lists for $54.70

Im sure the fact that at least one is crashed a week drives up the value alot. Since ive been on this forum i cant count how many fds ive seen totalled or parted out or both.

I wouldent be suprised if the amount of clean title fds in america is less than 5000. Talk about an aspiring collector car.

If you want a decent price for your fd you must advertise in a market kind to your price.

The KBB price is dependent on the area that you live in, no? Anyway, my 94 retails at $16.8k ---woot!

This is true...late 2003 I looked up 94 RX7 blue book value and it was around $11K...now private/retail price $14.5/15K respectively.

It's a rare car (as we all know), last time I heard there are only 1000 of these registered in state of Texas.

I don't know about this. I have a mint '93 with 40k original miles and it only got about $12.5k on both sites.

It's a '93...what do you expect? Na but seriously, 94s and 95s definitely run more than 93s, unless it's a mint 93 CYM R1. You see that w/ all cars. Early MKIV Supras ('93 or '94) are much cheaper than say, '97 or '98 Supras. And again, a few years ago my '94 FD was down to $9K on KBB! So they've definitely gone up in value. Doesn't mean you should sell it for KBB, as these cars should always sell HIGHER than KBB...

I just got into a little collision, but my car is in the shop right now being fixed. At first my adjuster didn't know my mileage, so he put down the average mileage for our cars. Which is 130,000 miles for a 93. He said it was worth $13,500. I told him my actual mileage, which is 68,000, and he said my value just went up a grand or 2. So yes, our cars have increased in value indeed.

I stand by my statement but I can see where you're coming from. Let me revise. I hope the FD maintains a decent value but does not skyrocket so much that I will never be able to attain another. It's a good machine but I don't think I could pay 30K+ for something that old unless it was in immaculate condition. I'm talking clean enough for the virgin Mary to eat off of. My FD needed a little work at 39K miles. I purchased it for 13 grand. It was the lowest mileage and lowest priced one I could find.

BTW I am 18 yrs old, and I bought my FD when I was 16. I flew 900 miles out to chicago from ny, to find the perfect fd (63,000 miles, new engine, new tranny, re-man twins, guy thought turbos fried cause of vaccuum leak), and had it shipped back to ct. I have put 3,000 miles in two years, and only take it out when the road is clear of sand. It gets washed every 50 miles and waxed every 150 miles. (I graduated HS early so i have nothing to do untill i go to college). I change all fluids every thousand miles. I take offense to everyone ripping on "kids buying fds" because I take better care of my FD then most adults in my area with them. Also I do all the work on it, because I wont let anyone touch it. It is my prized possession and it ranks above my girlfriend (and she knows it too). I have had a poster of the wankel and a fd on my wall since I was 12 and I did a project on a hydrogen powerd rotary motor my freshmen year in H.S.. So I take alot of offense to that **** about kids n fds.

Larz, I feel you, and yea I'd love to get a second FD too. I guess I wanna be able to before the prices soar, but I still want 'em to soar

I dunno how we got on the topic of kids and FDs, cuz that's not what this thread is about. BUT, I will say this. 1) There are exceptions to every rule, so if you're that exception, you have nothing to prove to ppl on this forum. Just keep doing what you're doing. But on the real, the stereotype holds true 99% of the time. And 2) Always, *always* remember that there is NO substitute for experience, and experience can ONLY come with duration. So by virtue of being young, your experience in many things (not all, but definitely many) is indeed intrinsically limited. And nothing can change that - except time I know, I was there just a short time ago

I hope the value skyrockets and never drops just for punk sake! as long as theese punk kids that should be driving hondas cant afford a 3rd gen im a happy camper! Dont get me wrong, some kids deserve them, hell i got mine 7 years ago when i was 21, BUT i did not paint things funky colors, put big robot stickers on it, super sized bat wings all over it, or put a speaker box from my dads living room in it either.

FD value has gone up. But not as much as other 'collector' cars? I know I'm into VW Buses and they've shot the lights out compared to FD's over the past few years.

I won't even mention other classic Muscle cars. They've just hit STUPID price levels. People are trading them like stocks now...

It sounds like you take care of your car.
But most of the FD's are out of commission not because they are taken care of, they are either driven into a pole, tree, another car, etc. Thats called accidents. Mechanical failures are pretty easy thing to fix and I would not carry a salvage title.

There are reasons why car insurance companies charge more for young teens vs. older more experienced drivers. If you are offended and you think what some of the older people are saying is wrong, then try to convince the insurance company.

I'm glad it's going up. Keep these cars away from teenage hands.

It's funny how it seems that every teenager who owns an FD is a pinnacle of our society. At least that's what basically they ALL say when they come in here lol.
