FD Trans fluid-big power guys chime in

I am using a Tii trans now, but may try an FD box I have laying around. My car is having issues being speed shifted around 8k. It seems to be blocking me out as in the syncrows are not doing a great job-not grinding like there is a physical gear issue. In my experience, proper trans fluid sometimes has a factor in this.

There is synthetic 20-50 in there right now, that is what works well in DSM and Honda boxes. I was wondering what the 500++whp guys (are there any around here? )are using with success-heavy fluids such as Redline shockproof, or light fluids suck as GM Synchromesh.

I have searched the forums with no luck. Let me know what works for you guys.

...Get a dog box?

I know that in the 323 GTX/GT's, which have trannys made of glass, success has been had running 50/50 or 60/40 mix of royal purple 90w and ATF. Worked great in my beat to **** FB tranny. A lot of people swear by running an ATF mix, or full ATF in their manual boxs.

... on a side note, I have an old redneck muscle car guy freind, who says him and his freinds used to take their old saginaw and muncie 4 speeds apart and file off every other nub on the synchros... and just dog shift the **** out of them.

I can vouch for your friend. Back in the day (I'm 50) when I used to build chevy muscle that's exactly what I'd do. Worked like a charm. The Saggies especially. they were tough trannys, more HD than the Muncies but not as good ratios.

Thanks for the info-and yes. And old PR trick is to do the same with the gears so they can mesh easier at high RPM's.

I will likley try that fluid combo after I dyno the pig.
