FD started smoking and idling bad and has black plugs - pics of plugs

I've had the car 11 years now and had her running great. Was tuned by Steve Kahn two years ago and has been a blast to drive. Driving home from work last night in the rain she started idling bad and this morning when I went to start it I saw a lot of smoke. Motor is a well built 3mm street port peice from Kevin at Rotary Resurection. It was rebuilt over two years ago. I'm running non-seq on the turbos. They are used turbos I bought five yars ago off here. Do you think it's the turbo's? Has a MSD ignition also.

Here are what the plugs use to look like (a pair from last year)

And here is what they looked like tonight

My plugs looked exactly like that and i was burning a ton of oil, i'm not sure if it was from my turbo's or engine though.

what color is the smoke? those plugs don't look excessively bad to tell you the truth. Wire brush them clean. Do a compression check, and check your oil level. When you do all those... let us know the results..

Thanks, will do. The amount of smoke made me decide to replace the turbo's ASAP. Wont take too long to swap them out. I will post my results after there on.

something that usually reveals whether the turbos are blown is oil in the intake piping. Like manny said the plugs aren't terrible, but they're far from great. I would replace them, its not like they're too expensive. Also check to make sure the map sensor and fpr lines are still attached.

Well I pulled the turbos off last night and the new ones from BNR showed up at the door today
Brian was great to work with , fast and honest. Can't argue with that.

old ones - a lot of shaft play

New ones - glad I had a spare set to send off right away

They should be on tomorrow, I spent tongight prepping them and installing the oil and coolent limes. Would of been done today but had to work till nine.

YOu can remove the turbos with out taking the motor out. My cars has a lot of mods and block off plates so it's easier for me.

Best source for OEM parts is Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda in Virginia (hmkparts@aol.com)

Gives great prices for RX7Club members. I bought a crap load of parts from him during my rebuild and saved a bundle. Extremely fast shipping and top notch communication as well.

if you're a racer mazdacomp is much cheaper and you get most parts in 2-3 days.

Car is running better then ever, real strong. Now my new clutch is slipping. Going to go back to a CenterForce PP and add some larger injectors/intercooler and new radiator. Also start working on the suspension some more.
