Fd running wierd
Sometimes when I'm just cruising, not accelerating, the car begins to chug. All I have to do is give it a little gas and it smoothes right out. I can't figure out what would do this. Could it be caused by the leading plug wires being on the opposite plug that they are supposed to be?

It is a very good possibility that it could be the fuel filter. I just ran it out of gas about a week ago. I'll try to replace that, then let you know what happens.

Mine has been doing this also. It started doing it only with the A/C on but now it does it alot.
What are your mods?
On my car it only happens between 2,000-3500 RPM and very light throttle. I haven't changed anything recently to make it happen. I replaced my fuel filter about 6,000 miles ago and this didn't start happening until recently. I think that it is ignition related so, I'm going to start by replacing plugs and wires.
Keep me posted on your findings

both leading wires come from the same coil so you can not make that mistake but the trailing coils are not to be switched also do not put trailing wires on leading and leading on trailing -very bad but it will run.

temperature related?
What is the outside temperature when this is happening? I get this when my car is hot or has been driven then shut down for less than a couple hours. I am suspecting a thermosensor. Anyway have you noticed the time of day or temperature when you are getting the problem. I get it at in town cruising speed but can take it out on the highway and open it up a bit and it goes away.

Usually its pretty hot. A/C weather. I get it after driving for a while. If I turn on the A/C it happens more often. I usually will just put the windows down and cruise and its an intermittent thing that happens maybe 2 times on my 35 min. commute?
Keep us updated on the thermosensor idea.

I have the exact same problem. I notice that I get it more at night when the lights are in use. I tryed cleaning my grounds, and I work real smooth. No jerking at all untell a couple of days later it came back. I then changed my spark plugs and then it ran real smooth again, and now it's kinda back but not so horrible as before. I'm thinking of putting extra grounding since I notice alot more when driving at night with my lights on.

I've changed my wires when I changed my plugs. Now the jerking is back. So I just changed my plugs a few days ago and everything is fine, no jerking at all. I wonder how long it will last? Hey here is a tip for those of you who don't know. Kragen's sells NGK plugs for only $5.00, and the dealer is around $12.00. This will save you alot. I just found out.

Ive had FC's and now an FD and they all do that when your not accelerating, I think its just the fact that an rx7 doesnt want to go slow, mine FC's could not would not sit on 30mph if you tried, you always have to be accelerating or they get pissed and start to jerk like you dont know how to drive a stick or something, just always accelerate a little bit, my first FC did it since I bought it and I ran upto 159k miles and counting and it still does it.
I owuldnt worry about it, its just a mazda thing...
