no r134a is more expensive but since r12 has more i guess you call it more harmful substances, it was stopped..

r12, however, BLOWS COLD *** AIR!!

colder than 134

Umm... no. R-12 is nearly 4 times the cost of 134a. Due to EPA regulations you must have HVAC license to purchse R-12.

It's listed on a sticker under the hood.

'93s - R12
'94s - Some have R12 Some have R134 (varies by build date)
'95s - R134

You can find out what refrigerant your car has by checking the stucker under the hood.

R12 is way more expensive, and you have to be certified to buy it.

R12 is more expensive, but a full charge of freon doesn't cost that much. I recently had a high pressure line on my car get a hole in it from the pipe rubbing against a metal coolant pipe and I lost all the freon. Changed the pipe out with new O-rings, took it to a shop, and they pulled a vacuum and charged it with 1 pound 4 oz of R-12 - total cost out the door was $125. VERY cheap for ice-cold AC.

If you'd like to know a bit more about AC and the FD, read part 1 of my article on the topic -

by the way if your car came with R-12 and someone in the past have it changed over to R-134a there should also of be a sticker saying it was changed over. at least thats what your suppose to do when you do the conversion, just so the next person will know. either that or if your really dont know check the high and low side connectors and see if its a R-134a fitting or a R-12

It's not that expensive. I got mine completely recharged with R12 for $65.

There are some awesome deals for R12 kits on eBay... of course you better be certified!

Getting certified is easy. Go to this site, print out the study guide, and then pay $15 to take the online test. You can then order all the freon you want.

http://www.imaca.org/condition.htm

Given the availability of freon on eBay (at about $25 per can), there is no good reason to switch to R134a that I can think of.

My question is how do you know if it has been change from R12 to R134? I need to know because I have to disconnect the a/c system to make my own V-Mount.

If you don't already have r134a, don't get it. R12 gets colder, and r134a is basically ineffective past 105 degrees.
