FD manual > sequential

I was looking around at different transmission setups online for different cars and came across this and the HKS sequential tranny for the FD. I've never heard of anyone with it on a street car so i was wondering if anyone would fill me in with info on it...its sketchy what you find online.

is there any way to actually convert our manual box to sequential, quaife (i think its called) gear box? if so how much would it cost and what kind of work would be involved, and would it be streetable.

I know most people think its pussying out of actually shifting, but if its faster and easier shifting, its good in my book!

I havent heard of anybody puttin that in...Its probably way too expensive to be worth it. I mean you could probably find another 100 HP for you car with the money spent on it...If not more.

1. Not for the street.
2. Quaife is a manufacturer, not a type of gear box.

they do them at dragon performance in the UK for £700, which is about the price of a clutch for the RX7 over here.

Maybe not for the street, but they are DAMN cool. My friend had a single turbo 400whp RX7 with a dogface engagement quickshift like that on, it was soooooo cool. You could rocket up the road and change gear without lifting off the gas, and without using the clutch. You just had to bash the stick hard and itd change up...it really was awesome.

BRILLIANT tools for the track, make shifting so much easier when you havent really got time to do it - but clayne is right; not really for the street unfortunately. The problem is you start to forget what gear your in, so you can stall when you pull away, and its also a pain to find reverse.

Ikeya Formula makes a bolt-on sequential shifter for FDs. Takakaira shows it online for about $1300. There's also an optional gear indicator so you know what gear you're in at any given moment. I haven't heard any opinions on the shifter, so I dunno how notchy it feels, etc.

I don't think anything exists that can be done in a way that resembles a 'budget' or 'easy'. It would only apply to FDs with literally tens of thousands already spent in mods. Run some searches, make some phone calls, it's simply not a common thing to do with streetable cars.

Well not to grind gears here (Punn intended) but the Ikeya one is only Semi-sequential meaning that you still have to use the clutch, (not sure if thats what you ment or not.) It just changes the H patteren into an UP and DOWN type shift. As far as how well it works, I can't comment personally, but from what I've seen in videos it seems to work pretty nice.
