Can a surfboard fit in an FD?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and am in the process of searching for an FD. I just have one question.. Do you guys think a 6'0 - 6'4 shortboard can fit in the passenger seat? This isn't going to determine whether or not I get an FD, but i would like to know..
thanks

No, I don't see how it could without significantly blocking your view. I would just get a soft rack and a board sock.

FWIW

i windsurf and carry my board 283 cm, my 2 masts, generally a couple of sails, my boom and large windsurfing bag containing my wetsuit etc etc.

of course the board, and masts are on my Yakama roof rack. i run a kevlar rope down from the tail of the board (which faces forward) to under the rear of my hood to take the longitudinal strain off the roof rig since the posts are 16 inches apart.

i routinely run 75 mph w it w no sweat.

if your board has top be inside the pass seat comes out in less than 10 minutes w 4 bolts so maybe that might work for you.

My skimboard which is 52" barely fits in the passenger seat. If its skinny enough run if from the shifter down the trans cover, inbetween the seats and into the trunk, that will be over 6'.

Heh, funny thread. I seen a pic once of a Montego Blue FD somehow "hauling" a 30"+ TV in the trunk.

Maybe if you push the seat all the way up, then recline it all the way down....eh, just get a soft rack. It'll be easier on the interior anyway.

you guys need a beater truck or something. i love rotaries and all, but i just can't see daily driving one or especially using it as a utility vehicle. other people of course look at their cars differently...

anyways, you could possibly fit it in with the hatch up.

i've got a 6'4" and a 93 touring. i'll give it a shot if i remember.

LOL - I don't think that is going to be possible without taking out the seat and leaving the hatch open.

HEY! Here's from a San Diegan surfer with an FD Hey man, I can fit my 5'10" in the pass seat, with a backbpack on the seat and my other crap (wetsuit, etc.) in the trunk. I'll take pics for you today. Where do you surf down there? I pretty much grew up in SD. I miss it so much I've taken my FD to the beach a few times just to show my buddies, but I don't like to take the car if I just plan on surfing. I have my Integra for that In my integra, I can carry three boards (under 6'6") and two people + their crap. Love that car too.

Heh, I remember I saw the pic of it within this board back in 2003 or so. It was montego blue and the TV was, as described from the thread starter, purchased from best Buy and had no other sources to bring it home (I thought Best Buy home deliver?). Anyhow, the trunk hatch lid was open of course but the pic was crazy and funny nonetheless. Might be able to dig it up in the archive.

if you don't have the money for a beater to haul **** around, you don't have the money to maintain an FD so there's another deciding factor for ya.

Couldnt you put down the passenger seat, take out the divider, and fit it through there? Id have to look but seems like it would work. You guys laugh about putting a 30" TV in an FD, but Ive seen **** like it done. I went to look at an FD at a dealer about a year ago, I got there and they said "We literally just sold it to a guy", I stopped by Walmart on the way back, and I saw the exact same described car (Almost 100% this was the car) with the hatch open with 2 guys trying to shove a mountain bike in. Poor Poor FD.

this reminds me of a time where two people asked me for rides home. it was the battle of who got shotgun first because the one who lost had to trunk it. i took down that wall thing near the strut bars so he can use the small cabin space and the small trunk. Oh well it was a funny ride. Well as for a surfboard mine does not fit thats why i use my parents car. but i did manage to fit a 156cm snowboard with bindings in my car.

I've put some weird stuff in my FD, including a cat-back exhaust, front & rear swaybars and a 4' x 2' sheet of aluminum, both of which barely fit (these were three separate trips, mind you). The passenger seat doesn't lie flat enough to fit something that is long AND wide like a surfboard. My friend's 02 Impreza wagon barely fits a 7'1 surfboard, and that car has tons more cargo space than the RX-7. Surf trips always leave your car sandy and smelling like salt anyway, I wouldn't want to do that to an FD.
