FD with a lot of problems..

I recently purchased a '93 rx-7 and later found out that it has severe problems..It was my fault for not thoroughly inspecting the car before I bought it,but it was my first one and I really didn't know any better..Fortunately for me I bought it cheap, but it is going to require a lot of work and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions..I'm in the Miami area,so if anyone could recommend anything at all it would be greatly appreciated..Here are a few of the problems:

A significant amount of oil is leaking all over the engine
The car has electric problems due to being tampered with
The suspension is rough;According to one mechanic, the previous owner cut the springs on the car to fit a body kit instead of replacing the springs

I have taken it to 3 mechanics (none of which were technically rotary specialists though),and they all refused to work on it..Does anybody have any advice at all??

Yikes man... maybe truck it up to Pettit racing for at least an evaluation.

The oil is likely an oil pan gasket, but could be lots of things. Try to find the source.

Electrical problems, you need to be more specific.

Cut springs suck. PM Fritz Flynn, he's probable got a set of stock spring/shock units he could send you for an easy bolt in.

Actually I had plans to take it to Pettit in a couple of days,I just didn't know if anybody had any different thoughts..The oil leak was said to be an oil pan gasket according to the guy I bought it from, but I had a few mechanics check it out,and they were so deep in oil that they honestly just stopped looking..And the electical problems..Basically the guy before tried installing all sorts of LED's all over the place and tampered with basically every fuse in that car,so I don't even know the extent of that damage..Basically the guy before me just butchered the car, which really is a shame..

I second that motion.

It seems that the previous owner was a young cheapskate ricer idiot, and that is a bad bad combination

3+

On the electrical issues, man those can be a nightmare. One thing that you can do is check out all the places that he seems to have messed with or tried to tap into. Try and trace anything that is not stock and see what it is hooked up to, possibly an aftermarket alarm or various gauges. Anything that you cannot track down try and unhook and see what (if anything) turns off. I am sure I don't have to say this but I will, be careful you may get shocked if you are careless... I would also really take some good looks at all the stock wiring and everything that is tapped into and clean it up with electrical tape or possibly resoder it to make sure the connections are good (on the things that are supposed to be there). All this is not difficult but it does require a lot of time... Good luck with the car...

This is what is happening to a lot of FDs - folks that don't know what the hell they are doing are "modding" out 3rd gens. The end result is a totally screwed up classic automobile
