Short Sweep and Full Sweep?

What's the difference between these two types of electrical gauges?

I believe its a reference of how far the indicating needle travels around the dial.

So the full sweep has a larger range than the short sweep, that's all?

A full sweep gauge will have better resolution, meaning it's easier to get an accurate reading off the gauge. Short sweep usually refers to a 90 degree needle movement, whereas full sweep would be 270 degrees. So there's 3 times as much room for the same range of numebrs, making them further apart and allows for more intermediate markings. This all helps you get a better idea of what's going on. On a lot of temp gauges, the needle is at least 10 degrees wide on a short sweep gauge. That's a lot of error if you're worried about whether the car's running dangerously hot or not.

Thanks Black91n/a, that clears it up for me. I searched on here and on google, couldn't find anything on it, though I guess it's kind of common sense.
