fd engine harness restoratiom

Whats up guys. Im converting my harness to single turbo. Its old and pretty much cracks everytime I bend it. Can I use a jdm harness for clips so I can just remake the entire harness?. Its not crispy from the firewall back do I pretty much got everything to plug into the ecu. Just want to know if the clips are the same.

I will recommend a mil-spec harness, why reuse a 20 year old harness in your single turbo build. You spent tons of money on turbo parts and are relying on a old harness.
Best 650.00 I spent this year and solve lots of my issues with the car.

Not the only way to get one made, but probably the best bang for your buck.

I had PFS make me a new harness last year before I knew about rywire, it cost me $800 and I'm pretty sure they re-used old (but not destroyed) connectors.

$650 for a brand spanking new harness seems to be a good deal (kinda pisses me off, cause now when I sell my harness, with only a few thousand miles on it, in the fall for my new ecu I'll need to do it at a significant loss). I've not noticed much direct feedback from 7 owners that bought rywire though... could just mean that no news is good news though.

The Rywire harness is a very nice piece. My engine bay is still being revamped so I have yet to install it. I did look it over thoroughly and gained some opinion on it.

Construction - This harness is very well made. All of the connections and terminations are professional grade. The wire is true milspec, and each connector is a new OEM piece. Each sensor plug is labeled which also makes it nice for those who aren't familiar with our harness. I can't comment on the wire length yet, but everything looks to proper scale.

Company - Ryan is very easy to work with. He can pretty much completely customize the harness for you. I have Bosch EV-14 injectors and a Fast Reacting AIT. He integrated the proper plugs into the harness so I didnt need pigtails. He was quick to respond all of my questions and I definitely felt like he was there to serve me a quality product.

Only thing missing - There is one plug that is absent from the harness; the coolant level sensor. The sensor is on the front of the filler neck with a single black wire. It does not terminate in the emissions harness, so I understand why it isnt included. From the factory, it goes through the emissions harness and meets the engine harness beside the PS pump. The factory plug is called the Coolant Disconnect. You will simply have to run a single wire from the brown with white striped wire on the engine harness, to the sensor. I mentioned it to Ryan and he said he would note it on his website.

Conclusion - Overall an awesome product for a good price. I would buy it again for sure.

It also would be nice if they could add a connection for idle control valve, but they do include 2 extra wires that you could use to connect any other sensors.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm tired of trying to repair my 20 year old harness. You guys pretty much answered all the questions I had.

Looks like i'll need to add in idle control and coolant level sensor.

I agree as I will be adding provisions as well. The good thing about not using the OMP is that you can shift those pins around at the ECU side, and clip them from the OMP plug. The same goes for the factory O2 if you are running an aftermarket ECU. When doing this, be mindful of what pins you pull as the OMP may have some wires that conjoin others further down the harness.

Just finished installing idle control and Wastegate control for my Adaptronic ecu, XLR8 thanks for the idea about switching the pins from OMP to the ISC and Wastegate control, I first try idling without the ISC and idle was jumping all over , now is steady and when any elec load is detected it does what is supposed to do.

If tight for cash and your connectors are in good (ish) shape it is easy to re-wrap. I am non-seq so I removed all that stuff for the seq system, OMP, and emissions. The harness is much slimmer and I rewired anything that looked questionalble. I re-wrapped to what I feel is as close to new as it can be and it cost me $10.

I bought 2 rolls of F4 tape, and 2 rolls of high grade electrical tape. F4 tape is thick stuff that sticks only to itself. I used F4 for the first layer and covered that with normal electrical tape.

Just take your time and zip tie all of the branches as you take it apart so it all goes back the same way when your done.

Down the road would I like a new harness, sure. But this one has my full confidence right now.
