That link is from 03......and the pic links within are dead....looks like its time for a new thread!...this one is appropriately named. Lets do it!...post up a before and after shot and info on what products you used to get it there!....mine is clean at the moment already...lol...but I use a pressure washer with a little dial dish-washing soap for scrubbing those hard to clean spots....I stay away from the cleaners with sodium hydroxide (simple green/purple power) as they seem to be very corrosive and i cant imagine they are good for aluminum...
Heres a link showing the chemical reaction Sodium Hydroxide has with Aluminum: http://www2.uni-siegen.de/~pci/versu...sh/v44-10.html

Im just worried that if i Hose Down my ENgine bay (which is really Dusty Like thick Dust) that i will end up getting water in places i dont want to..... what possible places should i look out for..... Turbos? alternator? vacume lines etc......
or just remove the engine and clean the heck out of it..Lol

Mine is the good old Husky pressure washer, jack up the car and place them on the jackstand even though I don't have any oil leak (yeah I fixed that pesky oil pan) I always pressure washer underneath.
Try it you will be happy worth every penny! Take it easy on the clear coat good enough to peel off that nice clear coat and bend them radiator fins/oil cooler fins.
Then wipe it dry and clean/polish those aluminum.

That's funny, I was thinking about creating a thread just like this on my way to work this morning. I am pulling my engine this weekend for the rebuild and wanted to degrease/clean the whole engine bay, undercarriage, wheel wells/suspension components, basically the whole car.
I will also clean all of my greasy tools, toss my grease/oil soaked gloves and start fresh and clean for the build.

If you don't want criticism, then make an attempt to HELP YOURSELF FIRST! Rather than waiting for people to "spoon feed" you info, you could easily use the "search" function prior to posting a thread that has been covered before. After all, these cars are over 15 years old and I think it is fair to say that most things have been done to this car. With that being the case, it only takes a few minutes to "search" prior to posting.
After you have shown that you have tried to help yourself first through research, members will be more than willing to lend a hand.
Mahjik is a very gracious mod that posts OPs to relevant threads. Just showing you that it has already been covered.

I use:
Pressure washer, and hose and lots of water.
Engine degreaser (diluted a bit)
4-5 hours of labor. Took me 9 hours to finish my R32 GT-R bay.
4 different brushes
Microfiber towels and generic rags
Autoglym Plastic conditioner
Autoglym and Xtreem Metal polish
Silicone Spray
Compound and wax to polish/protect all painted jamb and underhood surfaces.
To me, that is an engine detail, stock bay or not.
If you want, just take some diluted de-greaser, soak the bay in it, and blast it up and down with a pressure gun. Use your judgment as what you need to cover up. I guess to most people that would be a "detail".

Welcome to the forum. A little humility will go a long way, and consider this a friendly reminder to search often, read a lot, and post when you have something substantive to contribute.

Get over it. If Mahjik found it, you could've found it.
Have you tried google too? That's another search source you could've used that would have brought up the same results. Cleaning an engine bay is almost the same for all cars. Cleaning an engine bay is simple. Tell me when you see white smoke coming out the back of your exhaust.
Just to help you out, make sure you don't clean your engine bay (when you have the engine in) right after you drive the car. Spraying water on the turbo will cause the cast iron to crack.

I too have been pondering what I should do to clean mine before I install the engine. It just blows that I can't use my pressure washer seeing that it is the middle of February.
I'll probably end up lighting the fireplace (torpedo heater), chilling a bottle of fine champagne (busch light 30 pack) and giving it a rub down (bucket-o-rags and degreaser). Ah... it'll be a night to remember!
