Which FD to Buy???

Alright so I have a chance to buy two FD's. Both are 93's, one is an R1 and the other touring. The R1 has 56k miles on body and 11k on the engine. The car is stock and he is the original owner from 1993.Seller is asking $18,500.The touring has 82k miles on the body and 5k on the engine. It has 99 spec turbos, greddy SMIC, downpipe, high flow cat, power fc comander and more. this seller is asking $17,000.. As rx7 owners which would you think is the better deal?

Bit of a tough one here. I think the rule of thumb is to buy something stock and as original as possible but the touring one has very sensible mods which might save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

I'm stumped to be honest.

Buy the car with the lowest miles assuming the condition reflects those miles. Mods are pretty much irrelevant - you can always slap them on yourself.

value wise, both are about the same. given PFCs are hard to find now, and the amount of $ saved on the PFC, SMIC and parts will go to a new motor soon...

my vote would be for the R1 for the low milage

Personally i'd go for the R1 with less miles.

post pictures. i'd say condition is more important than mileage. the touring is "only 26k more", and may be in much better care. i think most people are thinking thrashed and trashed with those mods on the touring, might not be the case!

I have a clean R1 for sale with 50k original miles. Needs a rebuild but you would be still much cheaper than any of those cars. Has intake, downpipe, catback, manual boost controller, and fluidyne radiator.

I would but the one that is in the nicest condition: Best body & interior.

I personally would not buy the R1 if the two are in similar condition. It has a harsher ride, and does not come with many of the nice things the touring model has.

Oh yeah, don't buy a yellow or red car either. They are ticket magnets!!!

Yeah - most of the time I wind up driving faster in my dark gray Focus station wagon because the cops pay no attention to that. I feel like all eyes are on me in my red FD.

I'd take a serious look at the touring. . .a brand new engine (5k miles), new $2,500 turbos, at least $5,000 of options (including the turbos), and a lower price to start with (which might be more negotiable than the lower mileage R1). Plus, unless you're going to race, the touring is a nicer car! In good/excellent condition, 82k miles is just getting broken in Just another way of looking at it!

The R1 I have still has the stock parts. I am including the exhaust and intake. R1 suspension is not that harsh. It still has the same soft springs as a base and touring, only stiffer shocks. Most aftermarket coilovers are going to be stiffer. $18,500 seems too steep for that car. Come to think of it, both those cars seem too expensive for the minimal amount of mods they have.

I was driving home yesterday, and saw a guy getting a ticket in a bright yellow dodge neon. It wasn't even one of the high performance models. I honestly felt that he deserved the ticket for choosing such a stupid color for his car.

Sorry for getting off topic

I'd go see both and take the cleanest.
Now if your plan is to make some mods over a stock one, you'll save a lot of money with the already modified one, which has obviously nice brand parts.

I would take the R1 as well because of the mileage and the fact that it has only had one owner is a plus for me too. If the guy says that he had the car tuned steve kan send steve a PM he saves all his customers info on his computer, and he is a really cool guy.

I like the R1, the fact that it has an extra oil cooler, suade seats, lips and spolers, stiffer suspension..blablabla. However, nothing you cannot do to make a touring look and perform just like an R1. Most Fds are not in stock trim form for long anyways. I would go with the touring..gotta have the sunroof, plus you cannot beat 94 interiors!!!!

PM Sent. We have a really nice car available that used to be a customers of ours. One of the nicest we have seen come through our shop. 31K original miles! Here's the link:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=0

I've tried to change the price on the add three times now, yet autotrader has not changed it online. $17,000 OBO is the UPDATED asking price. PM me for more details!
