Fan Relay Question

Quick question. Do these relays (circled) only control the fans? As in, if I’m running aftermarket fans off of my haltech ecu, do I need these? I was going to remove them but I was afraid that they may control something else. Thanks for any help!

Correct, those four relays send power to the fans and nothing else. Details are on page Z-40 in the factory wiring diagram.

Soo I cut the fan relays out and the wires/plugs going to the fans annnd there are more wires going into the relays than the fans and it makes me nervous that I cut something I still need lol

Nope. When in doubt look at the wiring diagram.

It's a pretty simple relay circuit. Though if you are using aftermarket fans that's a good source for power and whatnot.

So the chase bays radiator set up comes with a fan relay harness with thermoswitch, I would like it to receive power when the ignition is on and shut off when the car is off. Am I right in thinking, utilizing the B/Y colored wire in the diagram would give me what I’m after?

IIRC, the 4 fan relays have a small harness that connects to the front harness, so cutting wires is probably not required. Same idea as the ignition harness/engine harness.

Harness is likely already cut from installing the radiator in that location.

If you are using the B/Y wire, that's ok as long as all it's doing is activating the relay. If you are looking for a factory wire to actually provide the high amps to the relay to then go to the fans, use the L wire.

the higher amps is probably the better choice. Will the L wire “turn off” when the ignition is off? From the diagram it looks to be before the ignition.

^The L wire it will be +12V hot at all times, unless the 60A fuse or 120A fuse blows. So your read of the circuit diagram is correct.

This may be a little off topic....but for the life of me I do not understand the wiring diagram on the connection of the relays to the harness. I see the wires on the relays are colored, do I match these wires to the same color on the harness?
