if you're running too rich, there's more fuel that doesn't get burned. even running the "proper" a/f there is still fuel that doesn't get burned. so yes, it does have an effect.

what about a manual fuel pressure regulator? tune it down a psi right before the test and that might tune the fuel down a little and lean out the fuel. then after that take it off and run the normal pressure. any other ideas.

Most RX-7s I've seen can only pass with both stock cats in place, or at the least the stock main cat and air pump in good working order. You should search around the forum for other RX-7 owners in Texas I'm sure someone could hook you up with a sticker. You can always play the Rejection sticker game and re-register the car every time the 90 or 60 days you have run out on the sticker. Personaly if I come into a situation where I can't buy stickers anymore I'm selling the car and building a kit car that does not need to pass emissions and I'll be sure it polutes more than my car now just to spite the law. Emissions testing pre-OBD2 cars is such a waste of time, there are not enough pre-OBD2 cars left on the road to make any difference for total emissions the US produces.

Next, check to make sure your airpump is working properly. After that, check your solenoids for the ACV to make sure it's working properly. After that, make sure you have good/new spark plugs and you run the car a bit before the test so the cat is warmed up.

i agree about the obd1 cars not needing to be tested, it's a waste of time and these cars have never been enviromntaly friendly anyways. what about a second cat right after the high flow? sort of a cheater stock set-up?

this is my brothers car. the plugs are new and the wires and the pvc valve are all brand spanking new. they emissions place said that because his car failed the machine won't print out the results. it would have passed the first time around but the idle speed sniffer was off a little. the fact that the guy reved the engine didn;t help his cause any. maybe te plugs need to get broken in a little?

However, that still doesn't mean your emissions components are working properly. A simple vacuum mis-routing on the ACV could kill your chances at passing a test. As long as your emission components are working properly (and they know how to test), you shouldn't have a hard time passing.

I forgot to mention that both of our injectors are leaking a little. I've got new o-rings and plinunum gasket coming this week. could the injectors be trying to over compensate? i think the fuel filter is also good as well.

Ditto,
And I passed with a high flow cat, downpipe, and no acv or other under the manifold emissions. I hooked the air pump right to the cat and it worked like a charm with new plugs and fuel filter.

Yes, leaking injectors can do you in.
Oh, make sure your cat is warmed up too. Drive "aggressive" for a bit right before hitting up the test center.
I *barely* passed with intake, intercooler, street port, downpipe, high flow cat, power pulley, and Power FC.
