Factory Motor Mounts. Power?

How much power are the factory motor mounts good for? Id like to avoid the vibration from after market mounts. I'm building a 450-500 hp street fd that wont be doin much of any launching. will the factory motor mounts hold up or do i need to send my brackets to banzai- racing........

LOL!!!! thats what I say I wont be doing much of anything and the first thing I do is exactly what I said I wouldn't. UMMM not to sure about how much power they can handle but do you know how much more vibration there is, looking to buy poly mounts, my factory ones are borderline MIA??

If you're adding enough mods for THAT much hp, then price shouldn't be a concern. Neither should a little bit more vibration. IMO, you need aftermarket motor mounts. You can add an engine torque brace, but the OEM mounts are still iffy at best.

Solid poly motor mounts are awful. They make the entire car vibrate. If you still have the original mounts on the car, you should at least replace the drivers side mount. It is aluminum, and more prone to failure than the passenger side mount.

price isnt the concern, especially since the factory mounts are twice as much as most of the after market mounts and i dont have either right now.. If i can get away with using the stock mounts then i would rather use them and enjoy the smooth ride then have to put stiffer mounts and feel like im driving a race car to a car meet. i just want to know if im gonna break the oem mount after a couple hard pulls. id be real pissed to buy oem mounts and them last 2 months.. so my questions remains is it a bad idea to use oem mounts on a 450 hp street fd?

I would at least run some kind of damped engine brace if you are keeping the stock mounts.

See if you can find a set of the Noltec (sp?) mounts that were being sold on here. I think wanklin was selling them? Most aftermarket poly mounts have a bolt running through the middle that will transmit vibration right into the frame. IIRC, the Noltec mounts were similar to the stock mounts in that there are two studs on each side of the poly material... thus truly isolating the engine vibration from the subframe.

Hopefully that made sense... lol

The Noltec mounts feel very similar to the stock mounts in terms of stiffness, I imagine vibration through them should also be very similar to stock.

I have a set of the hard poly mounts that are basically a cylinder with a bolt through it and a small puck for under the subframe so the stud never is in direct contact. I honestly dont get much vibration at all through them. I barely feel a difference from stock, maybe without the puck under the subframe you get all the vibrations through the bolt. I imagine that could make a difference.

You just use a small ring of polyurethane material, same stuff the mount is made of. Kind of like a big thick washer.

Noltecs are great. No more vibration then stock, Ihor and I install a pair on every performance build that comes through the door. Also, I've been running the Gotham poly mounts for around 4 years now, no noticeable vibration at all.....of course the 4 inch exhaust might distract me a bit

I recommend ording by phone though. I've ordered twice from them on line, and neither got processed until about 10 days later when I finally called. I was told some issue with the site.

The Noltec require you to have 2 steel mounts.

Completely different designs. After ours break-in there is no vibration, yet the engine and trans movement is decreased drastically. Couple them with our diff brace and you have a firm drivetrain...

There is also the DIY option using the basic urethane concept, but adding another pad on the other side of the subframe. All of the vibration is absorbed by poly pads instead of only the downward force on normal designs. I did this on my car and never felt the shifter move. No vibration either.

There are plenty of steel mounts availiable, just start a WTB thread and you will probably get a few hits quickly.

I bought the Banzai Racing mounts and another steel mount for my setup, just haven't finished it yet and even if I did it wouldn't matter, there is snow everywhere right now.

You can actually modify the aluminum mounts to work with the DIY poly material, but I just ended up buying a spare steel mount because they are cheap (~40 shipped).
