OH Extremely Rich Idle/Rich AFR

My Autometer wideband reads in the low 10's at idle and also while just cruisin at low speeds/low rpms. We had it on the dyno yesterday and the Laptop was unable to lower the AFR (I have a PFC) no matter what we tried. The dyno sensors also confirm the AFR readings.

Now, while driving lets say I normally accelerate up through 2nd, into 3rd and am cruisin about 40mph or so the AFR reads in the 12's-13's, but without any throttle change or anything the AFR guage starts going back to the 10's?

Also we are having a time keeping boost right where we want it too. Car brings 20lbs in the high 3ooo's w/no lag and as you increase rpms it just acts like it will never quit.

My question is, will the air adjustment screw help me get the AFR to come up? Thats one thing we never tried yesterday.

try it with the commander. Look at what cells are being used during Idle and just go to ur fuel map and lean out those cells while looking at the wideband. You should see it change immediately.

I think your AFR gauge is faulty or not calibrated/installed right.

If you were really running that rich you wouldn't be able to hold a stable rpm at idle for the most part.

Yeah, if the gauge is holding a consistant 10, you would know because your car would def. not be reading right.

As posted before, throw up a mods list

OH Ok

Where do you go on the commander to change those cells?

Also, I cant imagine installing the AFR wrong, although I know anything is possible.
I didnt know you could calibrate a Autometer Sport Comp AFR guage either, but I will look into that.

However, the laptop reads in the 10's and the dynos sensors read AFR in the 10's as well.

Car is heavy on mods but here are the main things:

Ported engine (my own porting/low rpm torque oriented).
2-850/2-1600 injectors
Dual Denso HiPerf in tank pumps w/5 no. 6 lines.
GT35R dual bearing turbo.
Pettit intercooler.
AEM methanol injection.
AEM Truboost boost controller.
Synapse 50mm wastegate.
3" to 4.5" straight flow exhaust.
Power FC.

I know the boost creeping up is the result of a very well built engine but I think I should be able to lean this thing out somehow.

Car idles fine except for when you first start it up when its kinda cold out but I have never set the cold idle on the car.

Like I said, car runs great. Soon as I start to drive it leans out ok but if you hold it at a steady rpm of let of the pedal it goes right back into the 11's and then the
10's.

I appreciate the input.

Sweet looking FD....when is she going up for sale? is Jason (RX-7 Store) doing any of your tuning?

My the way I'm running 850 primaries and my idle is in the low 11s at idle and off throttle, I'm not sure there is an easy fix

well there you go, its obvious.

you are running 850cc in the primary and havent tuned for them at all, thats why its so rich.

are you running any lag on your primary injectors at all?

also you need to lean them out in the cruise part of you map.

if you dont tune for your injectors then im not suprised your having this problems

with a bit of messing you should be able to hold 13-13.4afr at idle on 850cc, i do, but it did take me a couple of hours messing about

My solution is simple: very limited idle time

OH Hah Hah...

I have had this car for over 10years. It has never been in any bad weather, caught in sprinkles 2 or 3 times only. I will never sell by R1.

Thanks for the comment. Jason and Zavier have both tried to tune the car. They have been unable to hold it down, boost wise. I think its been mostly a case of better safe than sorry which is cool w/me. They are aware of the injectors, they sold em to me. I buy most of my parts from Jason and have always been very satisfied.

Gonna go cruise right now and see how shes doin.

throw the 850 primaries in the trash. you can make them work but they are just a pain in the ***. There is no reason for any FD to run them. Ever. Especially since 2200cc high impedence secondary injectors are widely available.

I was told matching the primaries and secondaries a little closer provided smoother fuel delivery, perhaps this is incorrect. The rich idle is a bit of a nuisance, but not a huge deal. I'm running 15s/16s at cruise and the car is great on gas (relatively speaking, at least on the freeway). Under wide open throttle at 16 psi I see low to mid 11s AFR, with about 70% duty cycle

make sure PFC settings for primary injectors are set to 850 not 550
