exhaust performance and sound

I'm trying to turn my car into a "sleeper." With all the exhaust systems out there.. it's hard to decide which would best fit my car. I want a catback that offers the greatest power gains w/o all the LOUD *** noises. I'm looking for one with a deep, deep tone but with a relatively nice purrr-(nothing anoyying.. like a honda weed eater..) I have heard people mention that the JIC titanium exhaust has a good deep tone and is good performance wise, but it's loud... I think a mp, dp, maybe w/ a borla would help out to quiet things down some. Any suggestions? What exhaust has the greatest power increase?-(and is quiet, or can be made EXTREMELY quiet.) What type of mp would be best to make things extra quiet.. resonated mp? Would adding mp, dp, borla mess up or restrict air flow to cause the exhaust not to reach its highest potential? I just need some help on picking out an exhaust, mp, dp, and borla to make my car "stealth" and still using a powerful exhaust. Thanks alot.

Go with the M2 dual tip CB or the Racing Beat dual tip CB. I run the Racing Beat and I couldn't be any happier with it. To hell with Borla. Why put their exhaust on such a beautiful piece of IMPORT art. And if you wanna keep things quiet then just get the Pettit resonated midpipe. But the Racinb Beat and M2 daul tips are the way to go for great performance and still staying quiet. Just my .02 Hope it helps.

Thanks alot man. But, does Racing Beat and M2 dual tips provide as much power gain as other catbacks?

unfortunately if you want the absolute best performing exhaust you are going to have to sacrifice quiteness. The best performing exhausts have the least amount of bends in the piping nor a resonator (sp?) like some exhausts (my Greddy system has one). If you want the best performance go with an Apexi GT, JIC Titanium, or perhaps even the HKS Hiper system. Of course these systems are loud.
However if you want a sleeper look you will be happy with the performance gains of both the RB or M2 dual tip exhausts and the exhaust note as well.

I agree with what the others have said. You will sacrifice a little performance staying quiet, but not enough that you'll notice it. Not unless you are trying to go for RWHP records or something like that. If you're like most of us then the RB or M2 dual tips will suit you perfectly. Not to mention the sound of both of those systems is nothing short of amazing!! I run the RB and my good friend runs the M2. I'm very impressed with both systems. Although the JIC is a superior performer. I guess it's all in what you want the most. But like I said, you won't be dissapointed with either of the dual tip CB's.

If I get a Apexi GT, JIC Titanium, or HKS hyper, would a resonated mp, dp, and borla muffler (if needed) quiet things down enough to the sound level of a RB or M2 dual tip? Thanks alot guys.

yeah......however the HKS Hiper is a DP straight-back system, includes the MP section of piping as well.

I don't believe so.

I am running DP, MP (resontated) and Apex N1 Duals, and it is incredibly loud. without the resonator it was almost unbearable as a daily driver. With the resonator (Borla XR-1 Sportsman) it is acceptable, although still one of the louder cars on the street.

At idle is loud enough to set off most car alarms in the parkade at work, or just coasting down the streets.

Under light load it isn't too bad, it does not drone since I put the resonator on.

Under WOT, it is Harley Davidson loud.

I am in the same boat as you and will probably go with either the RB or M2 dual.

The Apex N1 duals were fun at first but I grow weary of them, as do my neighbors, my significant other, the cops, me ears.

Cheers

PFS exhaust is light about 16lbs and has good flow and its not too loud
M2 exhaust is heavy about 27lbs good flow and even quieter.
RB exhaust is the quietest and looks the best IMO but the flow is not going to make you happy.
Greddy sp has a great idle sound (deep and loud) but its fairly quiet up top and no drone when decelerating its not a sleeper though big opening that slants to the side n1 style only worse.
For the money I think these are the best cats to choose from. Oh I forgot to mention that I have some of these for sale M2 for 399, Greddy SP for 250, and RB for 399.02

If you are running a MP nomatter what CB you put on it will still be very loud. Running a resonated MP will not reduce the sound all that much. It will just Reduce the drone that the car makes. Most High Flow cats arent too loud and still flow alright. N-tec claims that their HF cat flows about 90% as well as a straight pipe would. You just will not see the same performance.

As for catbacks I have a PFS catback and it has a very nice tone to it. Nice purr at idle and sounds pretty good at WOT. Plus the weight factor. I dont have much experance with other catbacks so i have no clue if it compares well with others, but i like it.

good luck

Fritz: I have to disagreed about the Greddy SP exhaust. I have it on my car now. It has a drone at cruise with my ATR hi-flow cat and there is almost no difference between the hi-flow cat and my custom Borla midpipe. It does sound good though.

I though the re-amemiya exhaust were supposed to be quiet but give really good power gains.

Not many people can afford to pay that much for a Amemiya exhaust; its well over $1000 depending where you get it.

I have a Pettit resonated MP and Pettit catback and sound is great. Low powerful sound, nothing like your typical 400rwhp rotary. I was very surprised and impressed.

Rb Single Tip

What about the Racing Beat Single Tip exhuast? Is it quiet like the dual tip and does it give about the same performance?

The Blitz is loud, and gets very loud when you run a MP. With a resonated midpipe and TO4E kit on my car the Nurspec is very loud, I am switching it to a Tanabe G-power for something quiter without giving up flow. It is FS by the way.

Here's a comment about the Blitz:
