Unhappy Exhaust Manifold leak

Well looks like that disgusting noise I was hearing might be my exhaust manifold...great. Feel pretty sad right about now. Does anyone know an estimated figure on how much it is to repair an exhaust manifold? I still have a little glimmer of hope that it's not the manifold but a different part of the exhaust system.

Does it sound like a crackling sound from the right side of the car where the turbos are? if so then say byby to the exhaust manifold or your turbos if your hearing that noise and blowing out blue smoke.

nope neither of those...I have no smoke and the turbo's are pulling well (they only have 57k miles on them with stock boost)...but the sound is a rather motorcycle noise...sounds like a motorcycle or a scooter, or one of those old *** bugs

I also have am exhaust leak, but I don't think that it is the engine to turbo manifold for certain. I hear a ticking sound from under the car, especially when next to a wall where the sound bounces back. I have climbed around the manifold area a few times and I could only find a leak at the wastegate rod goes through the turbo manifold. I could tell be cause there was carbon around it. I think that a stud may have also come loose. I am going to check it out in a week or so.

try pulling off your downpipe and checking the gasket for carbon buildup. if so then just buy a new gasket and voila!

Rx-7-4me...the crackling has nothing to do with what i'm talking about...if you have an exhaust leak you'll know it...i have very little power right now

Yeah it shouldn't be too much money providing that you can take down the turbos yourself. Then just take the manifold to a machinist and tell him to shave it off until flat.

Problem solved:

One of the 6 screws that holds the turbos on had fallen out and I was leaking exhaust. It's pretty rare...but heh, just my luck.

$240 bucks at Rotary Power

Lower intake manifold gasket!

It also could be the lower intake manifold gasket. Really! It has a runner for the EGR valve at the rear rotor side cover intake port. If you have never replaced this gasket, and your vehicle is a '93, it is a green fiber / paper material. The replacement gasket is metal with crush rings at ports. It's booger to replace, I know!
