Exhaust manifold gasket prices?

Why are the 3rd gen manifold gaskets so expensive? Are they any cheaper places to find them or will a TII gasket set work? Will any 13b gasket work?

Malloy Mazda or Mazda Motorsports is as cheap as you're going to get one. And no, it needs to be a 13B-REW gasket!

i got my gasket set from ray over the winter i cant remember what the total was but it was under 200. in that was both intakes,tb, exhaust mani's, and a downpipe. maybe more... those were the ones i remember though. call up ray and ask for a gasket kit you save money! just sell the ones you dont use

A TII gasket will work but cut it in half such that the two halfs will not touch in the middle. That allows both halves to flex indepedantly of each other and seal better.

Also clean everthing of oil and use Ultra Copper sealant on both sides. I use the TII gasket on my GT35R single turbp FD engine to save about $20, and it works fine.

About 8 months ago I used a graphite hi pressure hi temp stainless mesh reinforced gasket material to make my gaskets. So far, no problems and the gaskets are working just fine. For $35 I got a 12" x 12" x 1/8" sheet from which I made a bunch of gaskets for both my Nissan Pathfinder and the FD exhaust systems. The Pathfinder was the guinee pig for initial testing followed by the FD.

McMaster/Carr item description

Graphite Sheet Gasket W/Stainless Stl Insert 1/8" Thick, 12" X 12"
In stock at $33.42 Each

I have the exhaust manifold gaskets for sale, if you're interested. I'm asking $25 SHIPPED for each. PM me if you're interested. Thanks!

If you get the outside engine gasket kit that is the way to go. Otherwise the metal exhaust gaskets are $50-100 each.

I've also opened the layers on the gaskets by using a utility knife instead of a torch. I just worked the blade towards the center and spread the layers out so they would have some thickness before being clamped down again.

I actually had the sales girl laughing. I called for both DP gaskets. I told her one would be pretty high, the other pretty cheap.

She looked it up and said "well this says 'gasket', but the part is over $100... let me make sure it's right'". I told her that was pretty much what I expected, but it was pretty funny that someone who works with parts all day on so many different cars was so blown away by the price of it. Makes you wonder why they're so high, but others can be so cheap.
