How would you know if you have an exhaust leak?

For the last couple of months I smell the exhaust while in the car. It is so bad that my interior stinks, and my cloths stink when I get out. In fact I have a shower after driving my car just to get the damn smell off of me.

I understand I should be able to smell it when I first start the car, or back out of the garage. But I am also getting massive stench fumes while driving the car in town or on the highway. The 4 air fresheners I have hanging from my mirror are not even coming close to mask the smell.


I have tried listening for an exhaust leak but I can not hear any audible difference.

Any suggestions what I should be looking for?
