Exhaust help
I installed a HKS carbon muffler titanium tip “hi power” exhaust and I don’t love it.
Specifically / too loud under partial throttle and The exhaust pipe exit diameter is too big for my taste.
full throttle is good / let off throttle cracking is nice
suggestions for a setup that is
single straight exhaust pipe that is more 2.5inch
has a better resonator (possibly mid pipe?) so that when on Highway at light throttle is closer to stock
Good rotary noises at full throttle
thanks!

The hi power is going to sound the way it sounds. Theres only so much you can do with it. Your best bet would be to make something custom. You can install a vibrant resonator in the long end of the cat back and use a high flow catted mid pipe. It will dampen the sound some and deepen it but the "issue" the hi power. It's doing what it was designed to do........ be loud

I am going to get rid of the hi power
The exhaust tip diameter isn’t for me
My ask is for suggestions for a reasonator / exhaust combo that
has good sound at full throttle
is more tame at partial throttle
Has smaller diameter than hi power single exhaust exit that isn’t angled

Well all of that is more preference from person to person. To some, the hi power sounds amazing and there are no upgrades. What you consider tame and quiet may not be what other consiser tame and quiet.
For the most part, the racing beat twin tip is the collectively agreed on "best". The styling of it isnt for everyone though. My personal favorite is the re dolphin tail. Its a pure rotary sound but its angled down... something you don't want.
the midpipe does have a fair amount of influence on the sound but it really depends on your catback. You have the ultimate option to make your own and have it look amd sound however you want. Vibrant and magnaflow have a lot of parts to choose from.

What is the rest of your setup like? Stock twins? Downpipe, cat, high-flow cat, straight midpipe, midpipe with resonator etc? All of those need to be taken into consideration and will have a dramatic affect on sound in the end.

When I was searching for an exhaust, I had similar criteria as you, and I found the current FD exhaust options lacking. There aren't many new exhausts available for the FD these days. When I was searching, I wanted a reasonably sized single-exit as well. Eventually I found an old-logo FEED Sonic Ti clone on Yahoo Japan (made by DO Eng), which I love. Here was my short list when searching, it may help you. Keep in mind most of these are out of production and aren't easy to find.
Fujitsubo RM01A
FEED Sonic Ti-R (titanium; $$$)
FEED Sonic-SR (still available new, and this fits your criteria)
Greddy Evo (discontinued around 2010, nice offset-tip stainless exhaust)
Greddy SP
Tanabe Medallion (still available new, but too quiet IMO with a stock main cat)

You probably won't like any "N1" style can muffler then (HKS hi power, Apexi N1, Apexi GT spec etc.)
The stock cat you have keeps things fairly quiet and if you didn't like it now, do not delete the cat becuase it will be crazy loud. You may want to stick with Tanabe medallion tuning, hks super turbo, Racing Beat, or apexi hybrid Evo.
The newer Racing Beat dual tips ive heard have been very raspy to me. I would search the forum because there are tons of topics on this.

Yeah I would go Tanabe or Racing Beat. That should get you where you want to be.

I must be old as hell, because the Tanabe is too loud for me, even with jdm dp and stock main cat. It's not obnoxious, and the tone is nice. I like the style better than the RB single tip, and I didn't really want a dual tip. If you're ultra old and want something even closer to stock, AutoExe makes a nice dual tip that was on my list.

HKS made a single tip rectangular canister WAY back in the day that's damn near stock sounding, but that's a hen's tooth to find at this point. A friend has one on a car with a downpipes and a stock main cat and it's BARELY up from stock sound levels.

I've got a really old Apexi Super Megaphone which might as well be stock. There is almost no difference in sound driving around between the two. Slightly louder at idle compared to a friends bone stock car with both cats. My car only has the main cat because it's JDM. My favorite quiet catback they do not make any more which is R-Magic Ultra Silent. I think I'll be getting the HKS Super Turbo once I get everything else on the car sorted out.

I’m really happy with the Apexi Noir I have on the car right now. Very quiet but slightly louder than stock. Nice deep tone. You have to like a flat black exhaust though.
The AutoExe dual tip looks very good too, so expensive though.

If only there was someone who made a whole range of FD3S exhausts in a variety of Sizes and even custom upon request. oh wait there is ...ME . RE all those JDM brands mentioned alot of them were designed with the idea of being bolted to a stock car and become very loud when you start removing the cat and or running a single Turbo set up.

* RB dual tip
No highway drone. No stink. Good performance, (imo) no boy-racer look.
Personally doubt I’d consider any boutique custom exhaust fabricator, especially one that would involve overseas shipping costs. What are you going to do if you don’t like it? Send it back?
