exhaust - dp, mp, intake, ect
hey i need some advice. I just bought my first fd, 93. well, i have a cat-back exhaust on it already, 3 in. racing beat dual tips. I am most likely going to put dp, mp, air box on it as my next mods. First I plan to get the hks dp and hook it up to my stock cat. then, when i get more money saved i am going to put mp and air box on and then probably a pfc ecu upgrade all at the same time. here in ohio we have echeck so in two years i would have to hook the stock cat back up for a day or so. i am very unfamiliar w/ ecu upgrades and have no idea how to use them. if someone could give me some info on that it would be appreciated. also, w/ these 4 mods is there anything else i should get or that i would need at this point? and finally, what kind of air box do you guys have? aluminum, carbon fiber? thanks alot

thats not paint....
I was looking at getting the HKS DP but ended up with the M2 Stainless Steel DP. I am very happy I went with the better quality. I purchased that and a MP from a guy on the forum. Cost me $300 total. It was used about 5,000 miles but it doesnt matter much because it is just a pipe. Swapping the cat back in for checks is what I plan to do as well. I am not too fond of the Air boxes, reminds me too much of a stock setup. I am going to just buy 2 K&N filters and put them on, saves $400. The best ECU upgrade now is the Apexi PFC. It is easier to use than most ECUs. The new AEM computer is coming out and it looks really nice. So many people have PFCs though and say good things about them. The only other mods you might want to be looking into next are Injectors and a new Intercooler. Not necessary but will help, especially if you try to run more boost. Keep looking on the forum for people selling parts, you can find some really nice deals.

ya i want to buy parts used. i am prob buying this hks dp used w/ 2500 miles on it. but i am still clueless on ecu upgrades. i hear pfc is the easiest and is the best for the twins. If i get real confused are there professionals that could help me out with it? rotary mechanics or something? for now the boost will be left alone for at least a year or two.

Actually, the easiest would be something like a Pettit ECU.
Personally, unless you plan on doing your own tuning, I would go with a reprogrammed ECU like Pettit. If you plan on doing your own tuning, then go for one of the others.
Also, if you plan on getting a midpipe, I wouldn't install it until you have upgraded your ECU. Be prepared to find a way to control the boost creep that might come along with a midpipe. I would imagine that in Ohio you see some fairly cool days and with midpipe you'll see your boost soar. Without the proper fuel and boost management, you'll be popping your engine in no time.
Here is a good thread about controlling boost creep:

Other than that, you should either look for a Stainless Steel downpipe, or get it jet coated. That will help the under the hood temps.

hey. no i didn't buy the fd from denny automotive. i actually bought it from a private seller in Brunswick Ohio. I live in Richfield Ohio which is pretty far from Columbus. Thanks for the info about the boost creep, Mahjik, that helped me alot. Exactly how do you port the wastegates and how much does it cost? i think i would rather do that then add plates. as for the ecu goes... still clueless. thanks
