I dont get your question. Why would someone use or not use an AST with an EWP? What difference would it make? As you most likely know, an AST is there to get rid of the millions of micro bubbles of air in the coolant, which has no link to the water pump and only with the Inside surfacing of the plates and housings. Using an AST is useless if you know how to properly bleed your system when you fill it up after a coolant flush or engine replacement.

Spec.

simple question really... let me rephrase.. do you have an AST with your EWP
some EWP keeps the WP housing and just blocks off the thermostat and oe pump..
im assuming with this... you can retain the AST whether aftermarket tank or FC cap without much hassle..
although some have ports directly to the front plate.. curious how they run an AST

pump provides the recirc for the said air to eventually work its way through the system..

really..

secondary question..
is there anyone else outside of addicted performance defined autoworks that offers side mount alternator bracket..
i dont care to have to swap to an fc front cover to use the others have available..

I disagree with the AST being “useless”, but since you haven’t gotten responses from those with an electric WP...many of us have properly deleted it without issue. My choice for SMIC dictated it for me. So if you don’t get a suitable option from the EWP crowd I think you could consider it.

leaning towards direct ports to the front plate but the snag right now is sourcing a bolt on bracket for a side alternator mount...
turblown has one that doesnt require the side mount but im not sure if hes still selling it... might have to go get one fabricated..

I will be installing my EWP and side mount alternator on my REW powered FC on Friday 29th.

I purchased an atkins side mount alternator relocation kit for 1st/2nd gen engines. I then build an adapter to that the atkins alternator bracket moves forward (towards the radiator) in order to align the alternator pulley with the main crank. I have not tested the setup, will know by the end of the month.

Neutron posted the Built 2 Apex link. If they have one that works for the FD, I would go that route (if I had to do it all over again)

They do! The pictures they have are on a FC but the option for FD is there. 100% bolt on. I'll post pictures of it installed in a few.

The only issue I had was the hole for the alternator itself was for a 8mm bolt. There was a ton of material so I just drilled this out to allow for a 10mm and that was it. Not sure if this was an over site on there part but it took me just a few minutes to correct.

I don't mean to derail this thread but has anyone hooked up a Davies Craig EWP and LCD controller to work with the stock FD fans. I'll be installing one after Christmas and want to retain the stock radiator fans since they work quite well.

Been running Evans for years, with no AST/coolant overflow acting as AST.
Switched to EWP cause i got a deal on the pump, still using Evans, about 500 or so miles, no issues yet.
I went with a sakebomb plate/kit retaining the OEM waterpump.

I think its best to have your ECU control your fans. The stock fans has 4 relays for different speeds/situations. I added the EWP signal/double ground just in case.
In this situation if for some reason the ECU doesn't trigger the fans, the EWP control would.
DId this years ago, and off the top of my head, 2 relays ground via ECU when the car is warmed up for medium speed.
When second threshold hits 1 relay grounds via ECU for high speed. I believe I wired the EWP fan control here.
4th relay is off the AC button still in case I want added cooling/control.
