Is this even remotely possible?

Is it possible to import an newer model FD from Japan then make legal for US streets (while keeping them RHD) like they do with Skyline's? Does anyone know of a company that does here in the states?

Simple answer, NO. Unless you only want to drive it on a track.

it is "possible" its just VERY expensive.. Their are companys that specialize in this for skylines, I dont know offhand if their are ones that do it for rx7's. If not you basically have to buy two of them, one for you. and one to be tested against crash laws and such

This is a subject that has been gone over and over ad nauseum. Yes, we all would LOVE to get a pimpin RHD FD from .jp, however, a few searches (on this here forum) would reveal that the answer time and again is that it's horrendously expensive, and that most mere mortals simply can't do it.

yea I see what you guys are saying...its not the RHD I want, I just find that locating a stock low mileage FD in manual is getting incredibly hard to find and thought it might be easier to have one imported...

Why not just build one? You will have a better car that you can drive and enjoy.

You would at least need to get a frame. Meaning at least one that has a blown motor. I searched for months trying to find one remotely close to me with a blown motor with no luck.

Is there any way to cheat the system? I have always wanted to have an s15 silvia, but we don't have them. Would it be possible to buy one in Japan, have it shipped over, and then buy a similar junker s14 or s13 240sx and switch the vin numbers? If you were to get an obd-I 240sx, switch the paperwork around, and act like the s15 is an old 240, wouldn't it be easy to pass it off? Just say it's "highly modified."

Yes that is possible, and yes people do it more than you think.

Buy a junker rx7, pull the vin tags off it and place them on your import. Import fees are a bitch and if you get in a wreck and the insurance company figures it out your in a heap of **** but as far as driving the car around town, you would be fine..

Sure would be nice to have a RHD Rx7
