Question Engine Torque Brace?

Someone was asking me the other day if the japanese braces(The nice HPI ones with the shock absorber as opposed to the solid ones I see on this forum) would fit the american FD's, or would your ABS get in the way. Anyone actually tried it?

HPI Brace

ABS gets in the way, needs minor modification. My friend has it on his car.

FYI, the HPI engine torque brace is not a real shock absorber, it looks like it, but nothing but empty hollow tube inside with rubber seals.

However, it works to some extent.

What kind of modification? Is it simple or do you need a welder?

Modification

Instead of mounting it the way it suppose to be, you put the shock on top of the bracket and tie it down. Angle is slightly off, but neverthless ghetto rigged.

I would look into a permanent correct way to modify it like a newly designed mounting bracket made to go its way around the ABS.

Would it be possible to simply create a new bracket for the brace to make it fit right? If so, I'm sure that someone can have it CNC'd or just create them out of steel.

Re: Modification

we tried this... it doesn't work.. if you look at it, pushes up against the hood/hood lining and your hood doesn't close properly. there's a 1/2 - 1/3 inch raise on the passenger side of the hood.. it looks like ***.

also if you do it this way, you are transferring all the torque/energy to the ABS unit.. not to the subframe, which can't be a good thing.

the only way to install this is to fab a new mounting bracket.

Forget about the Japanese torque brace, and check out the one made by RX7store.net.
