Anybody with chipped or blown apex seals should go into a rebuild EXPECTING to see a damaged rotor and rotorhousing. Sometimes the rotor is salvagable, usually not. The housing is almost never salvagable.

Here's some more I took. These should clear up what caused it.
Good one.

Missing middle half of apex seal. Little damage.

Apex seal stuck. Some more damage.

A lot more damage.

I hope this cleared some questions up.

IF mazda would support us in "doing it right" a little bit more, perhaps more people would "do it right". You cant blame anybody for not wanting to fork over $1200+ for 2 rotorhousings PLUS another (at least) $800 or so in seals and gaskets. Building a quality engine for a car shouldnt cost more than the car is worth, in my mind. I'd see nothing wrong with rotorhousings costing 300 each, but 600 is a little ridiculous.

I actually think that's what i'm going to do. A new housing from Mazda is about $480 so that's the route i'm going to take too.

Last I checked with Ray new housings were bringing right at $600 each. The only way I know to get a discount over that is to buy from adam @ rx7 specialities, or to be in mazdacomp, which not everybody can do.

That's exactly what i thought too but i went to the local Mazda dealer and they said $480 for a new rotor housing and $850 for a single rotor.

And i'm currently working on getting some used rotors.

Well keep us updated about those prices, but both sound way off. Rotors are usually in the $500 range, and housings a bit more. I dont think either of those prices is accurate.

I just looked up the price on rotor housings and the rotor for an FD.
My source of information:

http://www.mazda-parts-dealer.com/

FRONT ROTOR HOUSING, RX7 - ROTARY 93-94 $779.40=MSRP $662.49= Retail price
REAR ROTOR HOUSING, RX7 - ROTARY 93-94 $779.40=MSRP $662.49= Retail price
ROTOR ASSY, RX7 - ROTARY 93-94 $826.20=MSRP $702.27=Retail Price

Anyway I have Brand New FD rotor housing, a have a few pairs.. I can do $1050.00 delivered for a pair (Lower 48 states only) or $550.00 for 1 delivered,(Yes better price if you buy in pairs) front or rear.. your choice. I think mazdacomp is about $505.00 each on these, last time I checked.. so my price is a tadbit over Mazdacomp which is all most impossible to qualify for.. Only reason I can sell for this price is I purchased 6 pairs from my contact in Japan and he gave me a killer price on them...

I do have a few Used Fd Low mileage Jspec housings if you are on a serious BUDGET.. They are clean and 100% useable but are used.. $300.00 each or $500.00 for a pair.. ( I like to sell in pairs if you did not notice)

And I have a Perfect low mileage Used Jspec Fd rotor I can sell for $250.00 delivered for 1 or the pair for $400.00...you get a better deal if you buy the pair..
